Snowmobiler rescued after breaking thru ice

A Crystal Lake, Ill., snowmobiler who broke through ice on Eagle Lake near the Chanticleer Inn was rescued from the frigid water Sunday night, according to authorities.

James Trinka was transported to Ministry Eagle River Memorial Hospital and treated for hypothermia, according to a Vilas County Sheriff’s Department press release.

At approximately 6:55 p.m. Sunday, the Vilas County 911 dispatch center received a report of a snowmobile and operator that had broken through the ice on Eagle Lake on the Eagle River Chain of Lakes.

The caller, Linda Trinka, told the dispatcher that her husband had fallen through the ice on his snowmobile and was standing on his snowmobile with the water up to his chest area at the entrance of the channel of Eagle Lake.
