Oval classes are backbone of Derby

While the media spotlight rests most often on the World Championship class at the Eagle River Derby, the heart of the four-day racing program at the Derby has traditionally been the Oval classes.

The popular Oval classes range from the stock sleds that are much like the trail-riding machines to the modified snowmobiles in the Sprint classes.

The best racers that now compete in the World Championship class got their start racing in stock and modified classes.

Track officials say the unique Outlaw 600 class also will return to Oval racing this week,
