|Getting arrested a common experience|
By Byron McNutt
CAN ?THIS BE true? By the time they reach age 23, almost a third (30.2%) of Americans have been arrested. This fact is from Crime & Delinquency, a study of data collected by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
I first read this information in the Jan. 11, edition of the Wall Street Journal. It appeared as a Statshot, edited by David Goldenberg. I investigated this further and found an article from USA Today about a study published in Pediatrics.
The newest study analyzed data collected between 1997 and 2008. This arresting development is a concern because arrest records follow young people as adults when they seek student loans, apply for jobs and try to get housing. It’s important to note that not all arrests result in criminal charges.
