Pines boys battle Hatchets in hoops

In two very competitive games, the Northland Pines boys basketball team lost to Tomahawk twice in the past week in Great Northern Conference (GNC) games.

The Eagles lost to Tomahawk 59-48 last Tuesday and then fell to the Hatchets 51-35 Saturday in a make-up game from Jan. 7.

In the Tuesday game, Northland Pines built a 21-10 lead by the end of the first quarter, but the Hatchets out­scored the Eagles 14-2 in the second period to take a 24-23 halftime lead.

Tomahawk stretched the lead to 42-35 in the third quarter
