She loved to travel to Ireland to her ancestral home and visited there often, and was a member of the Georgian Court Society. In 1945, Dorothy and Bill moved from Madison to Columbia, where Bill taught at Stephens College for 20 years. While in Columbia, Dorothy belonged to many organizations, including the Cecile Taylor Circle of Kings Daughters, the Columbia Art League, Sacred Heart Church and the American Association of University Women.
