Michael Burke, age 36, a resident of Wakefield, Mich., and Eagle River, Wis., died on Feb. 20, 2014, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, Minn.
Mike was born in Iron River, Mich., on Sept. 19, 1977.
He grew up in Eagle River, and graduated from Northland Pines in 1996.
Mike served in the U.S. Army and was a tank driver for the Battalion Commander at Ft. Riley, Kan.
He worked for Zielies Tree Service in Bruce, Wis.
He enjoyed snowmobiling, four-wheeler racing, ice fishing, hockey, hunting and above all, spending time with his family and being a devoted father.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert Burke.
Mike is survived by his sons, Evan Burke of Eagle River, and Grayson Lombardo-Burke of Wakefield; his parents, Michael L. (Lisa) Burke of Arbor Vitae, Wis., and Lynn (Paul) Junkmann (née Ivey) of Clarksville, Tenn.; siblings, Kristy Burke of Woodruff, Wis., Michelle (Joe) Gechas of Rhinelander, Wis., Bailey Potter-Burke of Arbor Vitae, V.J. (Saira) Bodamer and Courtney (Joe) Bodamer; special friend, former wife and mother of his first son, Angie Vugrinec-Aschenbrenner of Eagle River; paternal grandmother, Mary Ellen Burke of Iron River; maternal grandparents, Robert and Diane Ivey of Clarksville, Tenn.; grandmother, Marcia Kostro; nephews, Damon (Stephanie Denton) Burke, Sydnei Smith and Abbie Gechas; great-nephew, Bentley McKay; uncles, Robert Edward (Lynn) Burke of Iron River, Robert (Robin) Ivey and Ron (Mil) Ivey; aunts, Kelly (Lester) Uren of Iron River, Patsy (George)?Peterson of Crystal Falls, Mich., and Sue (Will) Barber; special aunts and uncles, Doug (Linda) Fisher and Ralph (Gail) Valire; cousins, Jessica Burke, Missy Barber, Brad Burke, Chevon, Kristyl, Lisa (Cory) Reimer, Wendy (Andrew) Box, Kraig (Vivian) Tass and Ashley Gagnea; great-uncles, Ted (Karen) Ivey, John (Pam) Ivey and Lenny (Sue) Ivey; and many other cousins and second cousins.
A memorial service was held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River, with visitation held from 3 to 6 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorials to Michael’s family and children are appreciated.
