Former Eagle River resident Ruth Bowles, 97, died Feb. 20, 2014, at Rennes Health Center in Appleton, Wis.
Ruth was born July 7, 1916, in Tippecanoe, Ind., to Clyde Lewis and Cora Adeline (Flory) Ward.
She married Delbert Albert Bowles in South Bend, Ind., Nov. 23, 1933.
Ruth and Del moved to Eagle River, Wis., in 1945, where they purchased land on Catfish Lake. They built Bowles Pike Point Resort, which they operated until retirement.
Ruth was a seamstress, a gardener, a crafter, a nature lover and a great cook.
Through the years she was a Den Mother and was active in the Congregational Church.
She enjoyed fine art painting and her canvasses grace the walls of many family and friends.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Vivian Luebben of Appleton; her son, David Bowles of Eagle River; six grandchildren and their spouses, Harvey and Carla Luebben, Lynn and Thomas Rasmussen, Kelly and Don Watry, Susan and Jack Mischler, Leslie Bowles, and Meghan and Brian Wollersheim; 11 great-grandchildren and four great-
She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert; son-in-law, Harvey G. Luebben Jr. and seven siblings.
In keeping with her wishes, private services will be held at a later time.

Though you cannot always see the bird singing, if you listen with your heart, you can hear his song. Though the ones we love may leave life as we know it, the love we knew will always carry on.
