Club 45 in Conover was full to the brim Feb. 15 for the 20th anniversary of the Great Northern Jerk-Off. The event raised $1,000 for Warm The Children.

There were 25 participants who provided 38 jerky entries trying to win the title of the Best Homemade Jerky in the North.

After an hour of judging, the winners of the 20th annual Great Northern Jerk-Off were presented with their awards.

First place, after a tie-breaking revote, went to Cathy Watkins

for her beef jerky. Second place went to Mary Covelli for her beef jerky and honorable mention went to Brian Blettner with a venison jerky.

Rich Ruffalo and his wife, the late Nancy Ruffalo, started the small, friendly competition 20 years ago.

“A special thanks goes out to all those who helped make the Jerk-Off a success, including Jen and Dave at Club 45 for all they did to make this event possible, and Jessica and Steve at All Things Jerky for getting the word out,” said event chairwoman Kathy Johnson.

An additional $220 was raised for Warm The Children during the Jerk-Off preparty according to Johnson. In addition, the Good Old Boys at Club 45 donated $300 to Warm The Children in December.

“Thank you to all those who entered their jerky and all those people who supported them and contributed raffles,” said Johnson. “We thank you for helping us warm the children’ in Vilas County.”

Warm The Children, a program sponsored by the Vilas County News-Review, provides winter clothing to qualified families in Vilas County, Three Lakes and Sugar Camp.

I had tried to post the first part before the below- to avoid confusion I'll post the whole thing together.

You can reach the 45 Club to buy t-shirts at 715-547-3571. They are very friendly and happy to sell you shirts.

They also say "If you jerk it, they will come" on the back :)

Sounds like a worthy cause and it's a great way to add to my T-shirt collection. Who do I contact for the donation-T-shirt transaction?
