|Take the help that is offered|
Letter to the Editor:
I recently read a very disturbing article in last week’s News-Review. It was about the mayor of Eagle River being hospitalized with E. coli meningitis. As I was reading this, I felt very sorry for the man and what he was going through, but I?also wondered why he hadn’t signed up for the Affordable Health Care insurance that is now available to all of us regardless of pre-existing conditions. We are able to sign up until the end of March and cannot be turned down.
It is wonderful that the Rev. Jim Fosdick has established a fund to help pay the mayor’s medical bills, but that will only touch the tip of the iceberg. Even with health insurance, co-pays can be huge.
I also saw on television that the doctors and nurses of Marshfield hospital will have to take a pay cut and forego their 1% IRA contribution because of low attendance at the hospital. If our governor would accept the Medicaid from the government like other states, such as California has accepted, our hospitals wouldn’t be in such dire straits.
Let’s take the help that is offered and keep our hospitals and doctors from having more problems in the future. It’s time to help the poor as Pope Francis is trying to tell us.
