Wants public meeting on deer research plan PDF Print E-mail

Letter to the Editor:

I read the article by Kurt Krueger regarding the Department of Natural Resources’ proposed deer research program on 900 acres of state-owned land south of Palmer Lake.

In the article he mentions a meeting in Boulder Junction where this program will be discussed.

I have tried to check into this meeting, but have not been able to find any information about it. Is it open to the public? Is public comment going to be available? And most importantly, when and where is the meeting being held?

I would appreciate any information you could give me.

Also, as an FYI to Kurt, this land has been open for many years to public hunting. He states in the article that, because the state just purchased the property in 2009, there is not a lot of tradition by hunters on this land.

Prior to the state purchase, the property was enrolled as forest crop land — open to public use. I know a fair number of people who have hunted this property for many years and shot numerous deer and bear on the land.

It would be a shame for these groups to lose access to this large parcel that they have called their hunting grounds for a long time.
