|Volunteers vital to Blizzard Blast|
I would like to take this opportunity to recognize all of the wonderful people who volunteered at the Northwoods Blizzard Blast in Conover held Feb. 16, a fund-raising event for area fire departments and emergency medical services (EMS).
The efforts put forth by the volunteers and committee members as well as the support of area businesses illustrated how mutual collaboration can result in a rousing success for the benefit of our North Woods community. Not only were the fire department and EMS personnel and local school students out in force to help, additional volunteers were from the community at large. This only exemplifies the generosity of our friends and neighbors and the willingness of the fire department and EMS personnel to go the extra mile to make this event happen. Countless hours of planning and preparation by individual committee members demonstrated their dedication to the cause.
My gratitude also goes to the generous businesses and organizations that provided financial support for media and to those that sponsored individuals events at the Blast. Without their contributions to the cause, we would not have been able to spread the word to the area.
The success of the Blizzard Blast Coupon Book and Snowflake Scrabble was due solely to the substantial effort put forth by area business owners and their employees. Area businesses also donated food and beverages to help offset expenses.
The Northwoods Blizzard Blast was conceived not only as a fund-raising event but as a way to highlight all the activities that make the North Woods the place to be in the winter. The tremendous reception the event received from everyone certainly made that happen. Not only were area residents out to show their support, but many visitors from other areas stopped to visit and hopefully will make us an annual destination for their winter get away.
With the help of all of our friends, the Northwoods Blizzard Blast raised $10,000 to donate to the local fire departments and EMS.
I am grateful to live in a community that surrounds me with people whose generosity and dedication are unmatched.
