|For second straight opener, ice-out put in cold storage|

Thousands of anglers would normally be converging on the North Woods this weekend as fishing seasons open for walleye, northern pike and trout this Saturday, May 3, but for a second straight year, a slow-to-arrive spring has delayed ice-out across Vilas and Oneida counties.
Opening day of the 2014 regular inland fishing season follows one of the harshest winters on record with 71 below-zero days and more than 100 inches of snow.
