W. Dwight Richards, 84 years old, passed away in Eagle River, Wis., on April 28, 2014.

He was born in Milwaukee, Wis., on Sept. 8, 1929.

Dwight owned and operated Richards Resort and lived in St. Germain.

He loved sports and the outdoors. Some of his passions were fishing, hunting, football, hockey, bowling, horseshoes and baseball.

In 1948, he graduated from Eagle River High School and earned a full scholarship to the University of Wisconsin - Madison for football. Dwight was also asked to try out for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Throughout his life he belonged to many clubs and coached hockey for several years.

He married the love of his life, Marion Richards (Carlson) of Eagle River in 1951.

Dwight was an honest and fair man with a big heart. In his 84 years, he had a positive impact, touched many and made a big difference in some lives. He was loved and will be missed dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph G. Richards Sr. and Elsa Richards (Kreger); brother, Joseph G. Richards Jr.; sister, Mary Ellen Miller (Richards); and son, Michael Richards.

He is survived by his wife, Marion Richards (Carlson) of St. Germain; sons, Jeffrey Richards of St. Germain and Timothy Richards of Eagle River; daughters, Jane Richards of St. Germain, Debbie Kinna (Neil) of Glen Burnie, Md., and Vickie Gut (George) of Hyde Park, N.Y.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family is planning a private ceremony and hosting a celebration of his life this summer.
