|Mary Jean Smith Caraway|
Entered the fullness of eternal life on May 8, 2014, at the age of 90 years, of Milwaukee and Star Lake.
Preceded in death by loving husband, Thomas K. Caraway; beloved daughter, Cathleen Conley; cherished parents, J.J. and Eulalia Smith; and many other special relatives, including grandfather Jefferson Randolph “Soapy” Smith II.
Survived by son James (Bobbi) Caraway of Milwaukee; grandsons James (Natasha) Conley of San Diego, Calif., and Daniel (Katie) Conley of Madison, Wis.; and great-grandchildren Liam, Rylan, Eila and Bree Conley. It is fitting we bid her farewell near Mother’s Day because she was always about her “kids.” Whether her own or her friends’ children and grandchildren, blood or in-laws (although she never made that distinction), or her many students from decades of teaching economics and other subjects at Shorewood High School, she always had a special place in her heart for the young. No one who talked with her left doubting that she cared about them.
She drove to the beauty parlor on the day of her death and lived and left this world on her own terms.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 14, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Whitefish Bay (Milwaukee) from 10:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Private interment overlooking her beloved Star Lake, where she spent 75 glorious Wisconsin summers.
