Janice left us on Monday March 17, 2014, in Kingsford, Mich., at the age of 88.
She was the firstborn of James C. and Beulah B. (née Brigham) Huff and grew up in the Alvin-Nelma area of Forest County.
After graduating from Elvoy High School in Nelma, her family moved to the Flint area of Lower Michigan to work in plants for the war effort. There she meet and married Chester D. Funk.In 1948, she and Chet moved back to Alvin and together ran their grocery store and gas station for the next 20 years. In 1968, they sold their business and moved their family to Eagle River.
After three years there, Chet was disabled from an accident at work. At that point Janice felt she needed to help support the family and she went back to school and got her degree in nursing at the age of 50. She then went to work at the Eagle River nursing home, staying there 20 years before retiring.
Janice is survived by three daughters, Luanne (Gary) Baker, Norway, Mich.; Laurel (Ken) Anderson, Eagle River and Jane Funk, Alvin; five grandchildren, two great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Carol Sanders; grandson, Matthew Edwards; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Laurel Huff; and a sister and brother-in-law, Marcia and Laird Heal.
A graveside memorial service will be Thursday, May 22 at 3:30 p.m. at the Alvin Lakeview cemetery.
