Phelps needs to improve road signs for public safety PDF Print E-mail

Dear Editor:

The good news is that the town of Phelps fixed and replaced the missing warning signs on Kentuck Lake Road, but a “Stop Ahead” sign and reposition of the badly-positioned “Stop” sign at the end of Nicolet Shores Lane (at Kentuck Lake Road) is still very badly needed.

A serious injury accident previously occurred at this intersection. Unfortunately, since Nicolet Shores Lane is not a Phelps town road, the town will not help completely resolve this safety problem.

I have asked Nicolet Shores Resort management to help facilitate this rather simple traffic safety proposal, but they do not seem to be able to help.

Consequently, this traffic safety problem seems to be left up to all of us property owners, who own property along Nicolet Shores Lane, to simply buy and erect a “Stop Ahead” sign and to facilitate reposition of the badly-positioned “Stop” sign at the end of Nicolet Shores Lane.

This rather simple traffic safety proposal needs immediate attention because it is already after Memorial Day, so we are already in the busier summer tourist season, and because there is increased traffic from Spectacle Lake Campground campers who travel through this intersection on Kentuck Lake Road.

It is also important because many Nicolet Shores Resort guests are from other places and are not familiar with our local roads.
