Watch for turtles crossing roads PDF Print E-mail

Dear Editor:

Turtles are crossing our roads to lay their eggs! It is completely unfair to run them over. Nothing makes me sadder than to see a squished turtle on the road.

Most roads they cross are country roads near wet areas. If you are in too much of a hurry to stop and help them cross the road, please drive around them!

The Three Lakes Waterfront Association and the Three Lakes Girl Scouts are working to draw awareness to turtle crossing areas. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has started a Turtle Conservation program. Please visit their website to learn more about turtles and report turtle crossings and fatalities at wiatri.net/inventory/witurtles.

Turtles cross roads to lay their eggs from late May to early July. Let’s be considerate of our North Woods neighbors.
