Memorial Day programs in Vilas County top-notch PDF Print E-mail

Letter to the Editor:

I want to take this opportunity to congratulate those who organized the ceremonies honoring veterans on Memorial Day in Eagle River and Phelps.

As a bagpipe player with the Greater Milwaukee Fire and Police Pipes and Drums, I have had the opportunity to participate in many ceremonies and will continue to participate in ceremonies honoring police, fire and military throughout Wisconsin; Colorado Springs, Colo., for firefighters; Washington D.C., for law enforcement officers; and honor flights for our veterans.

This past Memorial Day, I had the honor to play the pipes in tribute in Eagle River and Phelps. I must say that the ceremonies I participated in are amongst the best that I have attended.

It is heartwarming to see the honor given to our past and present veterans, to hear and see these tributes as each community performed their own specific tribute for them, and to see the multitudes of citizens of the respective communities who took time from their Memorial Day to travel to the Vilas County Courthouse grounds or the Phelps Cemetery to show their respect as they attended and participated in the ceremonies.

Last but not least, I want to thank the organizers for giving me the opportunity to be a part of their Memorial Day tribute.
