Delay in ice-out offers extra time to prepare gear
By George Langley

Although safe ice fishing conditions are gone for the season, the ice is not melting very quickly on North Woods lakes due to the recent cold temperatures and snow. The winds are helping break up the lakes.
This delay in ice-out gives anglers a chance to put away their ice fishing gear and pull out that open-water fishing gear and make sure everything is in order.  When the ice finally goes, it is well worth the effort of having everything ready to go when the perch and crappies start hitting.
