Mixed martial arts coming to Derby Hall March 15

The nonprofit Team USA Pankration organization will sanction its first ever mixed martial arts (MMA) event in Eagle River at the World Championship Derby Expo Center Saturday, March 15.

The event will feature 14 main matches, including a women’s match that eve­ning and a karate, pan­kration and grappling tournament to be held during the day.

Registration for the tournament will begin at 9 a.m.  This tournament is open to all competitors and spectators.

Falcons credited with tie against West Bend Bombers

In Great Lakes Hockey League action, the Eagle River Falcons traveled to West Bend for a game with the South Division-leading Bombers last Saturday night.

In an offense-dominated game that saw a total of 104 shots on net, the 15-3 Bombers edged the Falcons by a score of 6-5 in a shootout.

Fools Run set April 5 in Minocqua

Approximately 1,000 costumed athletes are planning to run the streets and trails of Minocqua at the stroke of midnight Saturday, April 5, for the eighth annual Only Fools Run at Midnight. There will be a five-kilometer run and walk and 10-kilometer run.

The event will be presented by Ministry Health Care. Online registration is now open and available at minocquafoolsrun.com.

The registration fee for adults is $30 and for youths 18 and under the fee is $20.

Bluejays lose Regional to tough Patriots team

The Three Lakes Bluejays boys basketball team lost the opening game of WIAA Regional playoffs last Tuesday, falling 63-43 to Goodman-Pembine.

The Patriots were ranked sixth in the state in Division 5, and the score wasn’t an indicator as to how hard the Jays played, according to Three Lakes coach Jack Wales.

Three Lakes girls prepare for WIAA Regional hoops

The Three Lakes Lady Jays finished up their regular season with a 51-41 loss to Phelps last Monday and a 48-28 victory over Goodman-Pembine Thursday.

Neither game counted for Northern Lakes Conference (NLC) standings, but they gave some of the younger players an opportunity to see some time on the court, according to Three Lakes coach Michele Brown.

The Eagle River Falcons and Mosinee Papermakers battled it out last weekend in their quest for the coveted Wisconsin River Cup in the annual series that awards the cup to the team with the most combined goals after two games.
In the two games, a total of 26 goals were scored. Mosinee claimed the cup, posting a 7-5 win on their home ice Friday night and then clinching the series with an 8-6 victory Saturday

Northland Pines to hold 3-on-3 soccer tourney

The Northland Pines High School boys and girls soccer teams will hold a three-on-three indoor soccer tournament Saturday and Sunday, March 8-9, in an effort to raise funds for the upcoming soccer seasons.

In celebration of Parents Night, the Three Lakes Bluejays boys basketball team earned a 59-48 home win over Northern Lakes Conference (NLC) rival White Lake.
