Counting blessings on Thanksgiving
By Byron McNutt

THANKSGIVING IS the time of year when we should all stop and take a long, hard look at what we have been blessed with in our lives.

Thanksgiving celebrations often take us back to our roots. Not all people are proud of where they come from, especially if it is a small town in the middle of nowhere.

That’s not the case for natives of the North Woods. Both natives and residents

Customer service key to success
By Byron McNutt

THE SINGLE greatest key to long-term success in today’s business world is doing whatever it takes to please your customers. That was the theory 10 years ago, and it’s the theory today, of Louisiana-based writer and lecturer Mike LeBoeuf.

LeBoeuf says consider these facts: A typical business hears from only 4% of its dissatisfied customers. The other 96% just quietly go away. Of those, 91% will never come back.

Try to think of a government

Veterans are all around us
By Byron McNutt

MONDAY IS VETERANS Day. I’ve heard people say they’d like to honor a vet but they aren’t sure if they know a veteran.

Veterans are our neighbors. They are our teachers, our law enforcement officers, the person who helps us at our favorite store, the elder at our church or she could be our co-worker’s daughter who just got out of the Navy and now works at a high-tech firm.

Monday is Veterans Day, a day when veterans of all ages stand together for America.

Monday morning quarterbacking
By Byron McNutt

WOULD YOU LIKE to be president of the universe for a day or two? During your reign, you would have the power to solve most of the economic and social problems weighing on the country. As president, you would have the attention of “all those idiots in charge” and could tell them how to restore consumer confidence, recharge the economic system, balance the deficit, create 10 million good jobs for all workers, make health care available and affordable for everyone, rescue the middle class and solve the funding obligations of Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid.

If you listen to all the economists, business school professors,
