High-school students are going green

Going green is a popular trend in today’s society, whether it’s making the effort to recycle or as basic as printing papers back-to-back.

We have been given one Earth and we need to conserve it to the best of our ability.

Spreading awareness and helping the Earth is an important issue with juniors, Jessica and Rebecca Anderson of Northland Pines High School (NPHS).  The sisters have been putting in hours left and right, to pull together Northland Pines’ first ever Green Week.

Northland Pines High School choir and band members attended the State Solo/Ensemble competition at UW-Stevens Point last Saturday, with 11 groups and individuals bringing home first ratings.

The students were under the direction of choir instructor Kate Janssen and band instructor Forrest Mann.

Pines begins trap-shooting club

Basketball, soccer, football and hockey are all uniform organizations that almost every school has. However, some high school students have different interests and that’s why teachers, Tim Lehman and Nick Stemper, started the Northland Pines Trap Shooting Club this year.

Pines places 19th overall in Battle of the Books

Reading is most often considered a hobby, but the Battle of the Books takes reading to a competitive level.

The purpose behind Battle of the Books is to promote a love of reading in high school and middle school students. Each team is given a list of 20 books which the team is responsible for reading.

Climbing lesson
March is Middle Level Education Month and Northland Pines Middle School is promoting middle school events. Students recently finished a climbing unit, with students in sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade physical education classes participating in four climbing high ropes elements — giant’s ladder, cargo net, firecracker rope and lumberjack. Supporting the Eagles
The Northland Pines cheer team helped spread school spirit across the field house spectator section during the Northland Pines girls basketball Regional tournament game against Tomahawk last Tuesday. The Northland Pines High School Math Department held their fifth annual Math Week recently.

This year’s theme was Engineering a Better Math Week. Math Week provides many opportunities for students to get more involved with the subject in a positive and fun way.

During Math Week, students participated in daily math challenges, a Math Survivor contest and a film making contest.

Pines to hold dress exchange

The Northland Pines High School Student Council will hold its first ever prom dress exchange.
