Angel Golf Spectacular planned in St. Germain
By Gary Ridderbusch

With the early spring, most North Woods residents are thinking two things — fishing and golf. It also means that the biggest golf event in this area, the Angel Golf Spectacular, is just around the corner.
Teams can now register for the 16th annual Angel Golf Spectacular, a fundraising event for the Angel On My Shoulder program, set for Friday, June 8, at St. Germain Golf Club.
The golf tournament will be a scramble format with registration at 8 a.m. and a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. with celebrity guests from the Green Bay Packers, according to Lolly Rose, founder of Angel On My Shoulder.
“The list of celebrities has not been announced yet, but in the past, former Packers nose tackle Gilbert Brown has been a regular,” said Rose.

Concussion legislation designed to help athletes
By Gary Ridderbusch

Each year, hundreds of athletes across the state sustain head injuries, including concussions.
For that reason, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker signed youth concussion legislation into law April 2 at Lambeau Field. Support for the bill came from physicians, student-athletes and other organizations, including the Green Bay Packers.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has exhibited an unwavering commitment to the adoption of concussion legislation nationwide, starting with the Washington state concussion law named after middle school football player Zackery Lystedt, who was injured during a game in 2006.

It was the same old story at last weekend’s Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Girls Hockey State Championships at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison as large co-op teams dominated the field.
The field included the Onalaska co-op, Kettle Morraine co-op, Hayward/Spooner co-op and the D.C. Everest co-op, better known as the Central Wisconsin Storm. The Storm, for example, has players from Mosinee, D.C. Everest, Wausau West and Wausau East high schools — a total enrollment of  more than 5,000 students.
