Just like the good old days, a group of Eagle River men and women are ready to lace up their skates and spend some time on the ice at the historic Eagle River Sports Arena.

Pines football, soccer having great seasons
By Gary Ridderbusch

It’s a big week for sports at Northland Pines High School as the Eagles football team will be playing for its second straight Western Peninsula Athletic Conference (WestPAC) championship and the boys soccer team prepares for Division 3 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Regional tournament play after winning a Great Northern Conference (GNC) title last week.

Punt, pass and kick set in Eagle River
By Gary Ridderbusch

As a youth in the 1970s, I can remember carrying my football under my arm to the football field at Red Arrow Park in Abbotsford, anxiously awaiting the local punt, pass and kick competition.

Some years I did fairly well, winning a trophy and advancing to the next level. Other years, one of my friends would advance and I would walk home empty-handed as the hardware would go to someone else. Either way, it was something you looked forward to each fall.

Local youth football enthusiasts will have the opportunity to
