John ‘Jack’ Armstrong

John “Jack” Armstrong of Eagle River died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at Seasons of Life Hospice House in Woodruff. He was 90.

Mr. Armstrong was born Oct. 5, 1922, in Eagle River, the son of Charles and Pearl (née Dyer) Armstrong.

He was raised and attended schools in Eagle River, and graduated from Eagle River High School in 1940.

He then entered the U.S. Air Force serving as a parachute

Laura ‘LaLa’ Berg

Laura “LaLa” Berg, age 62, of Three Lakes, Wis., passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, at St. Clare Hospital.

Laura was born Aug. 9, 1951, to Lawrence and Bertie-Leigh Berg. She was a resident of Three Lakes for 45 years.

Laura worked in the food and service industry, mostly known from Harry’s Tavern and Modern Aire in Three Lakes.

She enjoyed playing pool, sewing

Rachel K. Brown

Rachel K. Brown, of Wau­sau, Wis., died on Sept. 20, 2013, at Lili Assisted Living. She was 91.

Born in Butterfield, Minn., on June 10, 1922, to the late Reinhold and Mary (Rempel) Kintzi. Her family moved to Mountain Lake, Minn., where she attended grade school and high school.

Rachel attended the University of Minnesota, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in Public Health Nursing.

She married Melvin Brown on Dec. 26, 1946, and they moved

Mr. Fritz was born Sept. 21, 1955.

Janice A. Miller

Janice A. Miller, a resident of Three Lakes and formerly of New London, died Saturday Sept. 21, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. She was 83.

Mrs. Miller was born Sept. 2, 1930,  in the township of Deer Creek in Outagamie County to Leonard and Leona (Paul) Knapp.

She grew up in the Bear Creek and Clintonville area,  and graduated from Clintonville High School in 1948.

She married Roger W. Miller April 7, 1951, at St. Martins

Jeanne M. Shepard

Jeanne M. Shepard of St. Germain died Sept. 17, 2013, at Seasons of Life Hospice House in Woodruff. She was 46.

Mrs. Shepard was born Oct. 7, 1966, in Joliet, Ill., the daughter of Fred and Mary (née Yedinak) Shepard.

She graduated from Plainfield High School and became a paramedic for the Plainfield Fire Department.

She moved to Gold Canyon, Ariz., where she attended Phoenix University, and worked as an emergency medical services specialist and educator for the Mesa Fire Department for nine years.

Mrs. Shepard moved to St. Germain in 2009,

Wayne M. Yankala

Wayne M. Yankala of Brookfield and Three Lakes, Wis, age 58. Wayne passed away peacefully on Sept. 21, 2013, surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Beloved husband of Elizabeth for 30 years. Loving dad of Nicholas, Katrina and Jessica. Cherished son of Delores and the late George Yankala. Brother of the late Karen and Donna.

Arthur ‘Gerry’ Carlson

Arthur “Gerry” Carlson died in his home in Haines City, Fla., at the age of 76, surrounded by his wife, Alice, daughter, Jennifer and son, Chris.

Gerry was born in Elgin, Ill., where as a child he was an active Eagle Scout and awarded the prestigious “Order of the Arrow” award.

While at the University of Illinois he was a senior manager of the university’s football team, member of Phi Gamma Delta and president of the Athletic Council.

Byford ‘By’ Cavitt

Byford “By” Cavitt, a nine-year resident of St. Germain and formerly of Elgin, Ill., died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at Grace Lodge Assisted Living in Rhinelander. He was 90.

Mr. Cavitt was born Aug. 22, 1923, in Marion, Ill., to Claude and Nettie (née Sutton) Cavitt.

He was a graduate of Elgin High School, and played minor league baseball as a young adult.
