Eugene Thurston Juday

Eugene T. “Tug” Juday passed away on March 15, 2013. He had spent the last two years in the good care of the people at Grace Lodge in Rhine­lander, Wis.

Tug was born in Rhine­lander in 1918, to Wes and Ida Thurston Juday, where he picked up the name Tug, although its origin is lost to history. His early years were spent between Rhinelander and Land O’ Lakes, Wis., where he graduated from Eagle River High School. From there he went to the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where he graduated with a degree in business.

It was at UW that he met his future wife, Jean Becker, during her first week

Margaret Habener, age 91, passed away March 1, 2013, with her son and his wife at her side in their home.

She was born in Stolp, Germany, on April 4, 1921.

She came to the United States of America with her parents in 1924.

She went to Girls Technical School in Milwaukee, Wis., where she studied cooking and to become a seamstress.

James C. Sergent

James C. Sergent, age 76, of Eagle River, Wis., passed away at his home on Saturday, March 9, 2013.

He was born May 11, 1936, in West Branch, Mich., the son of Benjamin and Clara Sergent.

Jim was an insurance agent for Mutual of Omaha for 54 years, retiring last May.

He was an active member of the Lions Club,

Arney Storzer

Arney Storzer, a longtime resident of Eagle River, died at his home Saturday, March 9, 2013.  He was 93.

Mr. Storzer was born Feb. 19, 1920, in the Denmark area, to Leroy and Ella Storzer.  He was a member of the American Legion and was a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Air Force.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Lynn Slizewski, three brothers and one brother-in-law.

Survivors include his wife of 67

Frances D. ‘Fran’ Wettengel

Frances D. “Fran” Wettengel (née Cooper-Schrank) of Pewaukee, died Sunday, March 3, 2013. She was 81.

Mrs. Wettengel was a longtime resident of Three Lakes.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Schrank and Ronald Wettengel, and one daughter, Darlene Schrank.

Romona Kunda Baroka

Romona Kunda Baro­ka joined her family and friends in the Lord on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at Taylor Park.

She was born Dec. 17, 1918, the daughter of Tom and Agnes King.

At age 17 she married Elton Kunda in Sugar Camp, where they had a happy life and raised their two daughters.

Shirley Doolittle

Shirley Doolittle of Woodruff died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Season of Life Hospice House in Woodruff. She was 83.

Doolittle was born in 1929 in Rockford, Ill., the daughter of Syd and Rosabel Doolittle.

At the age of 17 months, she moved with her family to her grandfather’s resort, Evergreen Lodge, in Boulder Junction. She then moved to Resort of the Woods in Boulder Junction in 1934, which the family purchased later that year.

Joen M. Gehr

Joen M. Gehr (née Praefke) died in her home in Eagle River Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013. She was 71.

Mrs. Gehr was born on March 13, 1941, in Port Washington. She spent her childhood and teenage years in Thiensville and also enjoyed life in Allenton, Shawano, Land O’ Lakes, and Eagle River.

Margaret Helen Holthorp

Margaret Helen Holtorp, a lifelong area resident, died on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, in hospice care. She was 93 years old.

Holtorp was born in Eagle River July 12, 1919. She owned and operated the Gayla Café for many years and later the Mir Christian Bookstore, both in Clearwater Lake.

Constance E. (Godleski) Farvour

After an extended illness, Connie Farvour, age 94, left this earthly life on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, to join her Heavenly Father, and many family members and dear friends who went on before her.

Connie was born on Aug. 4, 1918, in the small town of Gagen, Wis., and grew up in that area with her parents and five siblings.
