Willy Porter to perform at Center for the Arts

Wisconsin’s own Willy Porter will perform for one show only at Three Lakes Center for the Arts Friday, Aug. 22, at 8 p.m.

There will be limited seating for the show, and wine, beer and concessions will be available for sale.

Porter’s professional career began in 1990 with the release of his album, “The Trees Have Soul,” with Paul Perrone, and he has been touring since.

Legion plans pork dinner

The Three Lakes American Legion will hold a stuffed pork chop dinner Saturday, Aug. 30, serving from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The dinner will include stuffed pork chops with all the trimmings, coffee and dessert for a cost of $10.

School board sets meeting

The Three Lakes School Board will hold a meeting Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m. following its annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Three Lakes Board Room.

The board room is located near the front entrance of the high school.

Book sale planned at library Aug. 23

The Friends of Demmer Library will hold a used book sale Saturday, Aug. 23, from 9 a.m. to noon in the lower level of the library located on West School Street in Three Lakes.

Featured in this month’s sale will be youth and young adult books at a cost of two for 25 cents and movies at a cost of seven for a dollar.

Genealogical society sets meeting Aug. 25

The Three Lakes Genealogical Society will meet Monday, Aug. 25, at 1 p.m. in the lower level of Edward U. Demmer Memorial Library.

Society member Debby Selman will present the program  “Preparing to Go to the Allen County Public Library.” Selman and several society members plan to go to the Allen County Public Library in October.

This is an opportunity learn what Allen County Public Library has to offer family history researchers.

Women’s club plans annual Fashion Show

The Three Lakes Women’s Club will hold it 32nd annual Scholarship Luncheon and Fashion Show Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the Reiter Center in Three Lakes.

The Fashion Show will feature club members modeling fashions provided by area merchants.

This year’s merchants will include Northland Clothing and the Open Armoire of Three Lakes; Green Weavers of Sayner; J. Christy’s, Ross Sportswear and Ross’ Plus of Minocqua; She’s All That of Crandon; Trading Post Internationale of Land O’ Lakes; Lund & Taylor Bridal

Women’s club plans bring-a-friend meeting

The Three Lakes Women’s Club will meet Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the Three Lakes Center for the Arts.

Those attending the special bring-a-friend meeting should meet at the theater at 1 p.m. to watch the movie “Philomena” staring Judi Dench. The movie will be free of charge and refreshments may be purchased at the concession stand.

Application period now open for Leadership Oneida County

The UW-­Extension and Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce are now accepting applications for the 2014­’15 class of the Leadership Oneida County program.

Leadership Oneida County is a nine-month program that cultivates and prepares leaders within Oneida County. The program aims to help candidates obtain an en­hanced awareness of services and organizations within the county, giving them a sense of civic responsibility and involvement.

The Three Lakes School District and Three Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and Welcome Center Inc. will continue work on its new electronic message center at Cy Williams Park by offering personalized plaques and bricks in exchange for donations.

The two entities have entered into a partnership to construct the state-of-the-art sign, which provides an opportunity to view most area events on a continuous basis.
