Legion plans chicken dinner

The Three Lakes American Legion will hold a broasted chicken dinner Saturday, April 26, serving from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The dinner will include broasted chicken with all the trimmings, coffee and dessert for a cost of $8.

The Jim Pekol Trio will perform music starting at 7 p.m.

First weekend champs
 Team All Aboard of Merrill took first place during the first weekend of the 40th annual Traveling Women’s Pool Tournament held at Oneida Village Inn. The team won $875 cash and included, front row from left, Stephanie Brandt, Patti Clark and Katie Proft; back row, Carrie Jo Nelson, Tootie Dittmar and Shelly Mondeik. Second weekend champs

Easter celebration
More than 200 adults and children attended the annual Phelps Easter Egg Hunt coordinated by Rob Andersen III and Colin Crawford and held at Phelps School Saturday. A hot dog and chip meal was offered at no cost, and youths visited the Easter Bunny (above). All children received a goodie bag and a prize. Other activities included an Easter egg race and youths signing a poster to be displayed in local business windows in Phelps. Nicolet Bird Club hears presentation from Song

The Nicolet Bird Club of Three Lakes recently hosted a presentation titled “The Wonders of Flight” by Tamarack Song, founder of Teaching Drum Outdoor School.

Song gave a presentation about bird adaptations and differences of wing and body structure between prey and predator birds. He also talked about the beauty of birds in flight.

“We learned how exceptional birds really are,”?said Nicolet Bird Club of Three Lakes Public Relations Coordinator Mike Freehill.

“They’re very complex creatures that nature has adapted to fulfill their special niche,” he said.

Easter Egg Hunt slated Saturday

The Three Lakes Lions Club will sponsor its children’s Easter Egg Hunt this Saturday, April 19, at 9 a.m. at Three Lakes High School.

The annual event provides children ages 1-14 from the greater Three Lakes area with the chance to exchange the hidden eggs they find for an Easter basket filled with candy and other goodies, as well as to meet both the Easter Bunny and the Lion mascot.

Mott wins close race for Oneida Board

Electors in Oneida County District 7 went to the polls  Tuesday, April 1, for a county board supervisor contest and they re-elected incumbent Bob Mott of Pelican Lake.

Mott, who has served on the county board for two years, edged challenger  Dennis Schoeneck of Enterprise, 177-172.

District 7 includes Enterprise, Schoepke, Monico, Piehl, Three Lakes Ward 2 and Stella Ward 2. Three Lakes Ward 2 voters backed Mott 43-18.

Demmer to celebrate National Library Week

The Edward U. Demmer Memorial Library in Three Lakes will join libraries na­tionwide in celebrating Na­tional Library Week April 13-19. This year’s theme is “Lives Change @ Your Library” and the weeklong event aims to highlight the value of libraries, librarians and library workers.

“Libraries today are more than repositories for books and other resources,” said adult services librarian Stacey Orr. “They are the heart of their communities, campuses or schools and are deeply committed to the places where their patrons live, work and study.
