Used book sale set at Demmer

The Friends of Demmer Library will hold a used book sale Saturday, Nov. 23, from 9 a.m. to noon in the lower level of the library, located at 6961 West School Street in Three Lakes.

This month’s sale will feature several specials and holiday bargains. Both hard- cover and paperback books will be available for purchase.

A Friends of Demmer Library spokesperson said books — even used books — make great holiday gifts.

Women’s fellowship plans harvest dinner

The Women’s Fellowship of the Three Lakes Union Congregational?United Church of Christ will hold its annual Harvest Dinner on Saturday, Nov. 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church. Carry-out meals will be available at 4:30 p.m.

The menu will consist of turkey (both white and dark meat) with all the trimmings, roll, pie and beverage. The cost will be $9 for adults and $4 for children ages 3 to 11 years old. Children younger than 3 will eat for free.

The church is located at the corner of Forest and Superior streets in Three Lakes.

The public is welcome to attend. Tickets will be sold at the door. For more information, call Vi Kveck at (715) 546-3511.

New cookbook to benefit fire department

The Three Lakes Fire Department Auxiliary recently announced the publication of its newest cookbook, “Just Desserts,” the latest in a series of fundraising recipe collections to benefit the fire department.

The newest book is the fifth released by the organization and features a compilation of cake, pie, cookie and other treat recipes from Three Lakes, Eagle River and St. Germain bakers.

Recipes from as far away as England are featured in the latest book, which was released at this year’s Pumpkin Fest.

School board sets meeting

The Three Lakes School District Board of Education will hold a meeting tonight, Wednesday, Nov. 20, in the Sugar Camp School IMC.

The meeting is set to begin at 6 p.m. The school is located at 4066 Camp 4 Road in Sugar Camp.

History society to meet Dec. 9

The Three Lakes Genea­logical Society will not hold a meeting in November. The next gathering of the society will be Monday, Dec. 9, at noon in the lower level of the Edward U. Demmer Library for the annual Christmas party.

Members may invite a guest, and should take a holiday dish to pass and a favorite family Christmas story to share for the celebration.

Ecumenical X-mas party slated at Reiter

The Women’s Fellowship of Union Congregational United Church of Christ of Three Lakes will host this year’s Women’s Ecumenical Christmas Party, Monday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. at the Reiter Center in Three Lakes.

Barbara Holtz will give a special Christmas reading followed by a Christmas carol sing-along.

Dessert and coffee will be served. Attendees should take an item for the Three Lakes Christian Food Pantry.

This is an ecumenical celebration, and all of the women of the Three Lakes area are welcome to attend.

Behrens of Tommy O’s Playhouse directs play for third-grade students

As part of its artist in residence program, Three Lakes Center for the Arts in the Northwoods recently hired Rory Behrens to work with third-grade students to produce a play of their own.

Behrens is the artistic director at Tommy O’s Playhouse — formerly Northern Lights Playhouse — in Hazelhurst. He is a 31-year-old graduate student who acts, sings, dances, writes, composes and directs plays.

His goal was to get the students

Organization sets fruit sale

The Sugar Camp School-Community Organization will hold its annual fruit sale from Nov. 8 until Nov. 22.

The pick-up day will be Friday, Dec. 6, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Sugar Camp Elementary School.
