Eighth-grade students continue raising money for trip to D.C.
Eighth-grade students at Three Lakes School have been working hard to raise the requisite funds for their upcoming trip to Washington, D.C. The class sold cranberries at Cranberry Fest in Eagle River and Pumpkin Fest in Three Lakes, and they plan to hold a cake auction Nov. 8.  —Contributed Photo

The typical October weather didn’t dampen the spirits of the Three Lakes eighth-grade students, as they recently sold cranberries and apples during Eagle River’s Cranberry Fest to raise money for a class trip to Washington, D.C.

As a matter of fact, it motivated them to work harder. This group of students is working overtime to earn the funds to make it to Washington in the spring, and they were offered

Borek gets award for lake stewardship

Bob Borek of Three Lakes recently received a Certificate of Recognition from Oneida County for his outstanding service in lake stewardship for 2013.

A member of the Three Lakes Waterfront Association, Borek has actively volunteered in keeping aquatic invasive species out of the Three Lakes Chain.

He has worked with the Clean Boats, Clean Waters and the Adopt-a-Shoreline

Used book sale slated at library

The Friends of Demmer Library will hold a used book sale Saturday, Oct. 26, from 9 a.m. to noon in the lower level of the library, located on W. School Street in Three Lakes.

Both hardcover and paperback books will be available for purchase.

Club president Sarah Ewing also announced there will be holiday book sales Nov. 23 and Dec. 28.

There will not be a general meeting of the Friends of Demmer Library in November.

Genealogy group sets meeting at Demmer

The Three Lakes Genealogical Society will meet Monday, Oct. 28, at 1 p.m. in the lower level of the Edward Demmer Memorial Library.

This month’s program will be about researching at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah, and will be presented by Nancy Brewster.

Center for Arts to feature works created by correctional inmates

Original play also
set to start Nov. 1


The Three Lakes Center for the Arts in the Northwoods has announced its November Artists of the Month and plans to host an original play in early November.

The gallery will feature a unique show throughout November, as artwork created by correctional inmates with severe mental and behavior needs will be on display.

The inmates are from the Wisconsin Resource Center in Winnebago,

Pines to host comedy Oct. 17

Northland Pines School in Eagle River announced it will host “ths phne 2.0: the next generation,” a one act comedy by Lindsay Price and published by Theatrefolk, Thursday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. at the school auditorium.

Admission is $3 for adults,

$2 for seniors and non-Northland Pines School District students, and free for Northland Pines School District staff and students.

Renovation donation
 Due to a donation by Three Lakes resident Larry Schirmer, Demmer Library in Three Lakes was able to color in another book on its sign representing the progress made in its efforts to raise the $2.6 million needed for a renovation project. American Legion sets steak dinner

The Three Lakes American Legion will host a Swiss steak dinner Saturday, Oct. 19, serving from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The dinner will include Swiss steak with all the trimmings, coffee and dessert for a cost of $8.

The Bill Hassey Orchestra will perform music starting at 7 p.m.

Haunted walk events slated

The Three Lakes Drama Club will hold two haunted walks Saturday, Oct. 26, in an effort to raise funds.

The first walk, dubbed “A Haunting We Will Go,” will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Three Lakes High School Frisbee Golf Course and is open to all ages.

The event will not be scary, and children will have the chance to meet family-friendly ghouls and goblins, according to the club.

Each child will receive a candy bag and the cost is $3 per person,
