Three vying for positions on Phelps School Board

The Phelps School District will see an election contest next Tuesday, April 1, between incumbent member Mark Grmick and challengers Colleen Pietenpol and Kathleen Mesun.

The top two vote-earners will win positions. Member Randy Samuelson filed for noncandidacy.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Phelps Fire Hall, located at 4495 Town Hall Road.

Capitol performance
As part of the Capitol Concerts series sponsored by the Wisconsin Music Educators Association, the Three Lakes Junior High School choir will sing at the State Capitol in Madison Thursday, March 20. The 30-member group will perform a variety of songs as part of the National Association for Music Education’s annual Music in Our Schools Month celebration.  —Contributed Photo

Oneida UW-Extension offering community assessment survey

Oneida County UW-Extension recently released an online survey to gather insight from local residents about the state of Oneida County.

Those who live or work in Oneida County are welcome to take the survey, which is available online at oneida.uwex.edu.

“A community assessment like this helps us understand more about assets, areas of need and opportunities for growth,” said Oneida County UW-Extension Department Head and Family Living Agent Erica Brewster.

“UW-Extension and many of our partners are charged with responding to new and emerging needs in the community,”

Benefit set for couple who lost home in fire

The family of Robert and Jenny Trick will hold a fundraiser Sunday, March 30, at the Oneida Village Inn in downtown Three Lakes. Doors will open at 3 p.m. and food will be served at 4 p.m.

The Tricks lost their home and two beloved dogs in a house fire Nov. 30, 2013.

Food, raffles and silent auction proceeds will help the couple rebuild their home.

The cost for the luncheon will be $10 for adults and $7 for children younger than 10. Monetary donations

Demmer Library to hold contest and art workshop

The Edward U. Demmer Memorial Library in Three Lakes will hold an essay and art contest to celebrate National Library Week, and entries must be submitted by April 1.

The theme for the contest will be “Lives Change at Your Library.” Essays and artwork should explain how the library has changed one’s life.

The contest is opened to all ages and prizes will be awarded

‘Princess Bride’ performance set

The Three Lakes High School drama club has announced its spring play production will be “The Princess Bride,” and performances will be held Friday and Saturday, March 21-22, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 23, at 2 p.m.

Based on the book by William Goldman, the ro­mantic comedy is told by a grandfather to his sick grandchild and covers the love story between Buttercup and Westley.

Tickets will be available at the door and cost $5

March Madness
With the Three Lakes High School girls basketball team advancing to the WIAA Division 5 Regional final last week, there was excitement among the Bluejay fans. Tavern league donates
The Oneida County Tavern League recently donated $500 to the Three Lakes Lions Club to help with the expenses of the annual Fourth of July parade. The Wisconsin Tavern League plans to make a matching contribution.
