Gifts of the heart
The Mission Society of Grace Lutheran Church of Three Lakes recently hosted the fall rally of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. Forty women, pastors and guests from eight societies attended the rally, making Gifts of the Heart donations that included food and cash for the Three Lakes Christian Food Pantry. Taking part in a donation were, from left, church members Evelyn Miller and Betty Koehler, and food pantry Treasurer Jack Schleafer. The Rev. Women’s club to hold meeting

The Three Lakes Women’s Club will hold a meeting at the Reiter Center Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 1 p.m.

Bill Lamon will talk about Three Lakes’ designation as a Bird City, and Joel Heiland will narrate the DVD “Birds Plus.”

Those interested in the Women’s Club are welcome to attend the meeting.

Book sale slated at library Sept. 28

The Friends of Demmer Library will hold a used book sale Saturday, Sept. 28, in the lower level of the library located on West School Street in Three Lakes.

The sale will take place from 9 a.m. until noon.  Both hardcover and paperback books will be available for purchase.

The next general meeting will take place Monday, Oct. 7,

Babysitting course set at Reiter Center

Camp Fire Oneida Inc. will offer an I’m Taking Care babysitting course Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Reiter Center in Three Lakes.

The course will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is open to boys and girls age 11 to 14.

Legion to hold chicken dinner

The Three Lakes American Legion will host a baked chicken dinner Saturday, Sept. 28, serving from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The dinner will include baked chicken with all the trimmings, coffee and dessert for a cost of $8.

Genealogical society donates to Demmer renovation project
The Three Lakes Genealogical Society recently donated $500 to the Edward U. Demmer Memorial Library’s renovation project. The Three Lakes Genea­logical Society has donated $500 and pledged another $100 for the next three years to the Edward U. Demmer Memorial Library’s renovation project.

The Society holds its monthly meeting in the lower level of the library, and members and other local family history researchers frequently use the resources available in the Local History and Genealogy Room.

Demmer plans cooking contest

The Edward Demmer Memorial Library will host a cooking contest while collecting nonperishable food donations for the Three Lakes Food Pantry Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Northwoods Reading Room at the library.

Those participating in the contest should register at the library on or before Sept. 23.

The pubic is welcome to sample the soups and vote for their favorites.

Nelson and Friends set show at Center for Arts

Three Lakes Center for the Arts in the Northwoods will host a concert by Warren Nelson and Friends this Saturday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m.

The group will perform storytelling, blues, folk, bluegrass and more. Nelson is the founder of Big Top Chatauqua in Bayfield. With him will be Otis McClennon, formerly of Otis and the Alligators.

Andy Dee and Rowan Nelson-Ferris will fill out the band with guitar and five-string banjo accompaniment.

Genealogical society to meet Sept. 23

The Three Lakes Genealogical Society will meet Monday, Sept. 23, at 1 p.m. in the lower level of the Demmer Library.

The program will be titled “Members Helping Members Swat Team.” New society members who are beginners will be able to learn research skills from the more experienced members.
