Raffle items sought for Scholarship Lunch

The Three Lakes Women’s Club is seeking raffle items for its annual Scholarship Luncheon & Fashion Show slated for Wednesday, Sept. 18, at the Reiter Center.

The raffle will consist of  items donated by club members and gift certificates to area businesses and restaurants. Donated items may be dropped off at the Reiter Center the morning of the event.

The Scholarship Luncheon & Fashion Show will begin at 11 a.m. with the lunch served at noon followed by the fashion show.

Tickets are available for a $25 donation. To purchase tickets, call Marcia Ward at (715) 546-3574. Profits from the event will fund scholarships awarded to girls graduating from Three Lakes High School.

Legion plans pork dinner

A stuffed pork chop dinner will be held at the American Legion in Three Lakes Saturday, Aug. 31, serving from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The dinner will include stuffed pork chops with all the trimmings, coffee and dessert for a cost of $8.

Three Lakes hosts ninth Art On Main
The ninth annual Art On Main was held in Three Lakes Saturday at Cy Williams Park. A wide variety of art was exhibited including paintings, pottery, jewelry, fabric art and woodworking. Demonstrations were given by several of the artists. Three Lakes artist Betty Lutzka was this year’s guest judge. First place was awarded to Karen Lenhart for her watercolors and the second-place winner was Dean Augustine (above) for his handcrafted furniture. Augustine also received the Purchase Award. Live music was performed throughout the day and cheese tasting was sponsored by the Sartori Cheese Co. Event attendees voted on their favorite artist. Ice cream social planned Aug. 21

UW-Extension agent to offer pressure canning class Aug. 21

Oneida County UW-Extension Family Living Agent Erica Brewster will present a hands-on learning opportunity for home preserving of low-acid foods using a pressure canner.

The class will be held Wednesday, Aug. 21, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Three Lakes High School Family and Consumer Sciences room.

Lecture, book signing set at Reiter Center

The Three Lakes Historical Society will sponsor a lecture and book signing featuring Jim Draeger, co-author of “Bottoms Up! A Toast to Wisconsin’s Historic Bars and Breweries” at the Reiter Center in Three Lakes Tuesday, Aug. 13.

The evening will begin with beer, wine and refreshments along with live polka music with the Jim Pekol Orchestra at 6:30 p.m.

The presentation will begin at 7:15 p.m. followed by a book signing, more music and the society’s annual raffle drawing. Admission is free.

Fashion Show slated Sept. 18

The Three Lakes Woman’s Club will hold its 31st annual Scholarship Luncheon and Fashion Show Wednesday, Sept. 18, at the Reiter Center in Three Lakes.

The theme for this year’s show will be “Cruising the Chain in Style.”

Event coordinator Jan Hintz said that planning for the show is going strong.

“With a theme celebrating our wonderful chain, everyone on the decorations committee has their imaginations in full gear,” she said. “I can’t wait to see what everything will look like.”

Jason Moon to perform at Center for the Arts

Iraq War veteran Jason Moon — a Milwaukee based folk singer and songwriter — will perform a free concert at Three Lakes Center for the Arts in the Northwoods Saturday, Aug. 17, at 8 p.m.

Moon is an advocate for veteran’s issues and began his musical career playing around campfires in his hometown of Eagle River.

While attending college at UW-Oshkosh, Moon hosted several open mics, wrote dozens of songs, and played hundreds of shows in the Fox Valley from 1995 until he was deployed in 2003.

Members of the Three Lakes Genealogical Society recently heard a presentation by Paul Johnson, who shared his experiences and explained the requisite steps for finding military relatives.
