Canning seminar slated at Demmer PDF Print E-mail

Edward Demmer Memorial Library in Three Lakes will hold a workshop on canning, freezing, dehydrating and pickling Wednesday, July 31, at 6:30 p.m. in the lower level of the building.

The seminar will feature a question-and-answer session with Oneida County Family Living Agent Erica Brewster, who will talk about how to safely preserve garden produce. Opportunities for hands-on classes will also be discussed.

Historical museum schedules Demo Day PDF Print E-mail

The Three Lakes Historical Museum will hold its annual Demonstration Day Wednesday, July 31, from 1 to 3 p.m.

This is a family event and will feature woodcarving and spinning demonstrations, churning and eating ice cream, horse rides and other events.

The Teaching Drum School also will instruct attendees on wilderness skills.

The museum is located at 1798 Huron St. behind the Demmer Library. For more information, call Joan at (715) 546-2295.

Legion plans chicken dinner

The Three Lakes American Legion will host a broasted chicken dinner Saturday, July 27, serving from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The dinner will include broasted chicken with all the trimmings, coffee and dessert for a cost of $8.

Application period open for Leadership Oneida

The UW-Extension and the Rhinelander Area Chamber of Commerce are now accepting applications for the 2013-’14 Leadership Oneida County program.

Leadership Oneida County is a nine-month program that cultivates and prepares leaders in Oneida County.  Upon graduation of the program, candidates will obtain an enhanced awareness of services and organizations within the county.

The program also seeks to reinforce the individual’s call to civic responsibility and citizen involvement.

Bible school scheduled

Faith Lutheran Church ELCA in Three Lakes will offer Vacation Bible School for community children who are 3 years old through those entering sixth grade.

Bible School will take place Monday through Friday, Aug. 12-16, from 9 a.m. until noon.

At God’s Backyard Bible Camp, children will participate in large group activities, learn ways to serve others, and take part in crafts, snacks and games.

Community garden sets open house event Aug. 4

Three Lakes Community Garden will hold an open house Sunday, Aug. 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the garden on the west side of Three Lakes south of the town shops off Railroad Street.

The event is free of charge and the public is welcome to tour the garden plots, ask gardening questions of master gardeners and see the methods of gardening and the plants raised.

Participants also will be able to sample some treats made from the garden produce.

This is the fourth year of the community

Friends of Demmer plan used book sale PDF Print E-mail

The Friends of Demmer Library will hold a used book sale Saturday, July 27, from 9 a.m. to noon in the lower level of the library located on West School St. in Three Lakes.

Both hardcover and paperback books will be available for purchase.

The next general meeting will take place Monday, Aug. 5. Books will be sorted at 11:30 a.m., followed by a sack lunch at noon and a general meeting at 12:30 p.m.

Anyone interested in the Friends of the Demmer Library is welcome to attend.

Bailey to present free genealogy workshop

A free genealogy workshop is scheduled Wednesday, July 17, at 6:30 p.m. at the Edward U. Demmer Library.

The workshop will be presented by Robert Bailey, 66, who is retired after a stint in the U.S. Army that included Vietnam and working nearly 40 years at a major aerospace components company in Rockford, Ill.

He is married with two daughters and three grandchildren. At the urging of his wife, he started working on his family tree about seven years ago.
