Benefit set for couple who lost home in fire

The family of Robert and Jenny Trick will hold a fundraiser Sunday, March 30, at the Oneida Village Inn in downtown Three Lakes. Doors will open at 3 p.m. and food will be served at 4 p.m.

The Tricks lost their home and two beloved dogs in a house fire Nov. 30, 2013.

Food, raffles and silent auction proceeds will help the couple rebuild their home.

The cost for the luncheon will be $10 for adults and $7 for children younger than 10. Monetary donations

Demmer Library to hold contest and art workshop

The Edward U. Demmer Memorial Library in Three Lakes will hold an essay and art contest to celebrate National Library Week, and entries must be submitted by April 1.

The theme for the contest will be “Lives Change at Your Library.” Essays and artwork should explain how the library has changed one’s life.

The contest is opened to all ages and prizes will be awarded

‘Princess Bride’ performance set

The Three Lakes High School drama club has announced its spring play production will be “The Princess Bride,” and performances will be held Friday and Saturday, March 21-22, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 23, at 2 p.m.

Based on the book by William Goldman, the ro­mantic comedy is told by a grandfather to his sick grandchild and covers the love story between Buttercup and Westley.

Tickets will be available at the door and cost $5

March Madness
With the Three Lakes High School girls basketball team advancing to the WIAA Division 5 Regional final last week, there was excitement among the Bluejay fans. Tavern league donates
The Oneida County Tavern League recently donated $500 to the Three Lakes Lions Club to help with the expenses of the annual Fourth of July parade. The Wisconsin Tavern League plans to make a matching contribution. Legion Post 431 sets birthday party

The Three Lakes American Legion Post 431 will hold its annual birthday party Saturday, March 15, beginning with a social hour at 5 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 p.m.

The dinner will consist of corned beef and cabbage, rolls, dessert and coffee for a cost of $8.

Commander Gary Madden of the Lake Tomahawk American Legion Post will be the speaker for the evening.

Donkey basketball set this Thursday

Dairyland Donkey Basketball will hold a show with live donkeys Thursday, March 13, at 6:30 p.m. at Three Lakes High School.

Advance tickets cost $6 and tickets at the door the night of the event will cost $8.

The event will feature a basketball game with all players atop real live donkeys.

The show is sponsored by Three Lakes Future Business Leaders of America and advance tickets are available from members or at any school in the Three Lakes District.

Dartball winners
Retiring Three Lakes Dartball Commissioner Ed Jacobsen recently held the sixth annual Golden Dart Tournament at Oneida Village Inn. Participants competed against each other to get the most hits with a limited number of darts. Trophies were awarded to the top three men and women. Great Northern Beer Fest seeking business sponsors

The 10th annual Great Northern Beer Festival is currently seeking sponsors. The festival will be held Saturday, June 14, 2 to 6 p.m., on the activity grounds at Hi-Pines Campground in Eagle River.

In 2013, the following five nonprofit organizations each received $2,000 donations through proceeds from the festival: Vilas Food Pantry, Humane Society of Vilas County, Olson Memorial Library Expansion Fund, Eagle River Historical Society and the YMCA of the Northwoods-Strong Kids Campaign.
