Well-read winners
Students from six area elementary schools recently competed in the Battle of the Books. Teams scored points by identifying book titles and authors from given clues. Competing schools included Sugar Camp, Three Lakes, Elcho, Northland Pines, Phelps and Christ Lutheran of Eagle River. Sugar Camp outscored Three Lakes 89-47 in the championship round. Town seeks ATV input PDF Print E-mail

 

The town of Three Lakes is seeking input on its all-terrain vehicle (ATV) ordinance due to the one-year evaluation period.

To relay observations regarding ATVs on town roads, visit townofthreelakes.com or call the town office at (715) 546-3316.

People also can stop in during office hours at 6965 W. School St. Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

American Legion plans dinner Saturday

The Three Lakes American Legion will hold a Swiss steak dinner Saturday, May 25, serving from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The dinner will include Swiss steak with all the trimmings, coffee and dessert for a cost of $8.

The Scott Kane Duo will perform music starting at 7 p.m.

Used book sale slated May 25 PDF Print E-mail

The Friends of Demmer Library will hold a used book sale in the lower level of the library Saturday, May 25, from 9 a.m. until noon.

Both hardcover and paperback books will be available for purchase.

There will be no sale in June.  The next book sale will be a special sale on the Fourth of July.

The next general meeting will take place Monday, June 3, beginning with book sorting at 11:30 a.m. and a sack lunch at noon. The general meeting will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Sign-up open for 4K program PDF Print E-mail

Three Lakes School District is still accepting applications for its 4-year-old kindergarten (4K) program for the 2013-’14 school year.

Children who will be 4 years old by Sept. 1, 2013, are eligible for enrollment in the program.

To register, stop in or call the Three Lakes Elementary School office at (715) 546-3323 or Sugar Camp School office at (715) 272-1105.

Faerie Festival set in Three Lakes

The Woodland Enchantment Faerie Festival will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Enchanted Garden in Three Lakes Saturday, July 27, from 1 to 4 p.m.

The Enchanted Garden is located at 7434 Halverson Road, No. 1.

The event is a fusion of whimsy and art, combining costume, live music, dance and crafts.

Trail donation
During a celebration Saturday at Bonnie’s Lakeside, the Three Lakes Tavern League donated $3,000 to the Three Lakes Trails Inc. The funds will be used to assist with the maintenance of the snowmobile trails in the area. Three Lakes fifth-graders participate in Student Tools for Emergency Planning
Fifth-graders at Three Lakes Elementary School recently participated in the Student Tools for Emergency Planning program, which aims to teach students the best practices in various emergency situations.  —Contributed Photo

For the second year, fifth graders at Three Lakes Elementary School participated in the Student Tools for Emergency Planning (STEP) program sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency in partnership with the state emergency management office.

The program assists students in learning how to assemble emergency kits and form communication plans in their homes.

The program is proving effective, according to some students.
