Duck houses
The global science class at Three Lakes High School recently constructed wood duck houses which will be placed outdoors this spring as part of a long-term project to gather information. The Three Lakes Fish & Wildlife Association donated funds to purchase the project materials. Illustration contest winners to advance to local competition

The Alpha Eta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society recently invited Wisconsin students in grades three through six to participate in the Sigma State’s annual Mary Jo Nettesheim Memorial Literary and Illustrator Competition 2013.

Three Lakes students entered by writing original fiction stories and publishing their stories in picture book form, with each page featuring text and illustrations.

Lions Club sets Easter egg hunt

The Three Lakes Lions Club will sponsor its children’s Easter egg hunt Saturday, March 30, at 9 a.m. at Three Lakes High School.

The school cafeteria will serve as the main area for festivities, and the egg hunt will take place outdoors on the school campus, weather permitting.

The annual event provides children ages one through 14 from the greater Three Lakes area the chance to exchange the hidden eggs they find for an Easter basket filled with candy and other goodies, as well as to meet both the Easter bunny and the Lions Club lion mascot. As always, older siblings are welcome to accompany younger sisters and brothers and their parents.

Genealogical society sets meeting March 25

The Three Lakes Genealogical Society will hold a meeting Monday, March 25, at 1 p.m. in the lower level of the Demmer Library.

After the meeting, there will be a Members-Helping-Members session. These sessions feature helpful learning experiences for those who want to know how to get started or whose research has hit a brick wall.

Members are encouraged to take research materials and laptops for an opportunity to work

Trip fundraiser

Edward U. Demmer Library Board announces vacant three-year term

The Edward U. Demmer Memorial Library Board of Trustees is seeking applicants to join the board for the three-year term, as there is currently a vacancy.

The Three?Lakes Town Board appoints trustees to the seven-member board.

Acting as the governing body of the library, the board of trustees hires and evaluates the library director, oversees library funds, creates library policies and advocates for the library.

Spelling bee winners
Sixth-grader Charley Devereaux (left) recently won a school-level spelling bee at Sugar Camp School. Martin Hoger, also in sixth grade, was named runner-up. Bird watchers to hold meeting PDF Print E-mail

A?newly formed birdwatching club will hold its next meeting Monday, March 18, at 6:30 p.m. in the lower level of the Demmer Library in Three Lakes.

The town is currently rated by the Wisconsin Society of Ornithology as one of the top 10 birding hot spots in Wisconsin, according to a club spokesperson.

The club will discuss what the designation of “Bird City Wisconsin” means for Three Lakes, the International Migratory Bird Day celebration which will be held May 11, along with future educational possibilities.

Birthday party slated for Legion

The Three Lakes American Legion Post 431 will hold its annual birthday party Saturday, March 16. Social hour will begin at 5 p.m.

A broasted chicken dinner, all the trimmings, coffee and dessert will be served at 6 p.m. Cost for the dinner is $8.

Service stars and pins will be presented. Awards will be given to members who have given five, 10 and more years of consecutive service to the organization.

Women’s club sets breakfast PDF Print E-mail

The Three Lakes Women’s Club will hold a breakfast Wednesday, March 20, at 9:30 a.m. at Cindy’s Country Café in Three Lakes.

Breakfast may be ordered off the menu and attendees  pay accordingly.
