Library to hold survival program

The Edward U. Demmer Library will hold an outdoor survival skills program presented by Trees For Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 18, at 6:30 p.m. in the lower level of the library.

An educator from Trees will talk about what to do in survival situations like getting lost while hunting, injured out in the woods or caught in bad weather.

Some topics covered will include the basic tools

Area seniors offered bus ride to Rhinelander

Seniors 55 and older and adults with disabilities can re­­­serve a seat on the Forest County bus traveling to Rhine­­lander via Three Lakes and Sug­ar Camp Wednesday, June 18.

The lift-equipped bus will originate in Crandon and make stops in Argonne and Hiles before stopping in Three Lakes at approxi­mately 8:15 a.m.

The bus will stop in Sugar Camp at approximately 8:45 a.m.

School opens 4K sign-up

The Three Lakes School District is now accepting enrollments for its 4-year-old kindergarten program for the 2014-’15 school year.

Children who will be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1 are eligible to enroll in the program.

To register, stop in the Three Lakes Elementary School office to fill out enrollment forms. Parents or guardians should take along the child’s birth certificate, Social Security card and immunization records.

People may call the Three Lakes Elementary office at (715) 546-3323 or the Sugar Camp office at (715) 272-1105 to have forms mailed.

Running, Gensler honored with Teen?Character Awards

Two students at Three Lakes High School recently were honored with the YMCA Teen Character Award.

Teachers Don Phelps and Ashley Stroud nominated Kacey Running and Alex Gensler for the award due to their consistent demonstration of the YMCA’s four core values of being caring, honest, responsible and respectful.

“Running and Gensler have worked hard in school and beyond, and their efforts have positively affected the Three Lakes community,” said Stroud.

Three Lakes High School seniors awarded nearly $110,000 in local scholarship funds

The Three Lakes High School graduating class of 2014 received $109,974 in local scholarship money, which was presented at the annual Senior Awards program last Wednesday in the school auditorium.

In addition, students receive scholarships from colleges, often totaling more than $100,000.

Three Lakes School students earn awards at State Solo & Ensemble

Vocal and instrumental students from Three Lakes School District recently performed at the State Solo and Ensemble Festival at UW-Stevens Point.

Three Lakes Junior High students performing at state earned the following ratings: Lucy Kaufman, first place, alto solo; Eli Ribbe, first place, piano solo; Savannah Edwards, second place, soprano solo; Romi Remick, second place, soprano solo; and Maggie Servent, second place, soprano solo.

Legion plans steak dinner

The Three Lakes American Legion will hold a Swiss steak dinner Saturday, May 24, serving from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The dinner will include Swiss steak with all the trimmings, coffee and dessert for a cost of $8. The Scott Kane Duo will perform music starting at 7 p.m.

To make reservations, call (715) 546-3431 after noon. Tickets may also be picked up at the American Legion.

The last business meeting for the American Legion Post 431 and Auxiliary that will be held before the summer break will be Tuesday, June 3, at 7 p.m. Coffee and dessert will be provided. Meetings will reconvene Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 7 p.m.
