St. Germain Lions Club President, Jim Carter, presented a $500 check to Amanda Farrow, Special Olympics bowler, at Eagle Lanes in Eagle River Wednesday, Nov. 6. Eighteen bowlers looked on as Farrow received the donation.

Pie sale set this Saturday

The Friends of the Plum Lake Library will hold its annual pie sale at Christmas Fest Saturday, Nov. 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or until the pies are gone, at the Sayner Community Building.

Bakers may drop off pies at the library, located at 8789 Peterson St. in Sayner, Friday, Nov. 15, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or at the community building, from 1 to 4 p.m.

A Christmas craft sale benefiting the Northwoods branch of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Wisconsin (BBBSNW), was held Saturday, Nov. 9, at the St. Germain Community Center.

The event featured a visit by Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, handcrafted items, gourmet foods, a hot lunch provided by BBBSNW and raffles for prizes held throughout the day.

Christmas Fest planned in Sayner this Saturday

The Plum Lake Woman’s Club will hold its Christmas Fest Saturday, Nov. 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sayner Community Building.

The homemade soups and chili made by members of the club along with brats, sauerkraut, hot dogs and homemade pies provided by the Friends of the Plum Lake Library will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Raffles for items will be sold from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with the drawings beginning at 1:45 p.m.

Historical presentation set Nov. 19 at meeting

The St. Germain Women’s Service Club will gather for a luncheon meeting at the Community Building, Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 11 a.m.

Lunch will be served at noon, followed by a program presented by Nancy Minx of the Vilas County Historical Museum.

Elementary holds Color Day

St. Germain Elementary of the Northland Pines School District designated Wednesday, Oct. 30, as Color Day.

The assembly began with the Pledge of Allegiance and  singing of the National Anthem, and focused on motivational activities.

Fourth-grade teacher Mark Deditz presented a student-drawn thank-you card to Glenn Svetnicka of the St. Germain Volunteer Fire Department.

Deditz spoke on all the things the firefighters do for the school.

Lioness Halloween
The fifth annual St. Germain Lioness Halloween Party was held at Sayner Pub Oct. 30. A pizza dinner was supplied by the club for 200 trick-or-treaters and their parents. “The Pub is a safe haven,” said Melissa Hrdlicka, project chairwoman. Members of the Lioness Club baked Halloween-themed cookies and cupcakes for the event as well. Cellcom donates to elementary school for construction of a student garden

Cellcom representatives presented a check for $800 to the Northland Pines Farm to School Program Thursday, Oct. 31, at Northland Pines Elementary School-St. Germain to benefit the construction of a garden at the school.

As part of the Northland Pines School District Farm to School Program, Americorps members Jasmyn Schmidt, nutrition educator, and Amanda McAtee, community outreach, are teaching better nutrition through local foods.

Business anniversary
 Camp’s grocery in St. Germain, Vilas County’s oldest family-owned grocery store, celebrated 67 years as a family-owned business Saturday, Nov. 2, with a drawing and sale prices throughout the week. The anniversary coincides with the store’s change from SuperValu to a Sentry Foods affiliate. Prizes given away included a 42-inch LG LED TV awarded to Richard Witt; a Char-Broil gas grill won by Julaine Nampel; a $100 grocery gift card won by Richard Polaski; and a smoker won by Scott Deverowski. Poster contest
Glenn Svetnicka of the St. Germain Volunteer Fire Department presented Nastadia Durski with her first-place State fire prevention poster award at an all-school assembly at St. Germain Elementary School Oct. 10 as  part of Fire Prevention Week. “We’ve had a great record of winning the State fire prevention art competition with Regional and State winners for several years,” said Svetnicka.
