Angel On My Shoulder gets anonymous donation

Jim Anderson, manager of Elbert’s Resort in St. Germain, presented a $500 donation to Lolly Rose of Angel On My Shoulder (AOMS) at the Chamber of Commerce office in St. Germain March 26.

The donation was from three anonymous businessmen in St. Germain who were involved in the St. Germain Radar Races held Jan. 31-Feb. 1.

St. Germain Women’s Service Club welcomed member Sally Young of Arbor Vitae, who spoke on the topic of teddy bears, as their guest speaker March 18 at the St. Germain Community Center.

Young talked about the history of teddy bear collecting from the days of President Teddy Roosevelt (circa 1902) up to the present.

Vojta challenging incumbent Bates for supervisor on town board

St. Germain electors will go to the polls next Tuesday, April 1, for a town board contest as incumbent Supervisor William Bates is being challenged by former supervisor John Vojta.

Bates has served on the St. Germain town board for the past three years and Vojta previously served on the board for six years.

Incumbent Supervisor Marvin Anderson is seeking re-election unopposed.

Awards banquet
St. Germain Fire and Rescue held its annual firefighters’ awards banquet March 22 at Whitetail Inn in St. Germain. The 2013 Firefighter of the Year award was presented to Jim Wendt (right). Wendt serves the department as a firefighter and engineer. Tim Ebert (left), certified firefighter and first responder, was honored for 35 years of service to the St. Germain Volunteer Fire Department and was given an eagle and flag plaque for his service. Fish fry
Twenty members of the St. Germain Volunteer Fire Department Association Inc., including Jesse Chuckel (left) and Brian Repenshek, met March 9 to stuff 3,500 envelopes with invitation, tickets and return envelope for the organization’s 36th annual fish fry. The event will take place at Golden Pines Restaurant in St. Germain Sunday, April 27, from 3 to 8:30 p.m. The association provides funds for department equipment such as automated external defibrillators and large equipment such as fire trucks. Tickets to the event are $12.50 each and may be purchased in advance or at the door.
