Members of the Sayner-Star Lake Lions Club sponsored the Retro Ridge Runner race Jan. 18 at Razorback Ridges Ski and Mountain Bike Trails in Sayner.

Adult racers had their choice of 15-kilometer or 7.5-kilometer trails while high school skiers were assigned to the 7.5-kilometer trail.

Children ages 8-13 had a 3.2-kilometer course laid out for them and a 0.75-kilometer track was set for children seven and younger.

Library offers sponsorship calendar

The Plum Lake Library in Sayner announced its current public offerings.

This year, the Plum Lake Library will celebrate its 75th year of service to the Sayner, Star Lake and St. Germain communities. The library board hopes to reach its monetary goal for its elevator/lift fund in this anniversary year.

The library is in the process of preparing an 18-month Get Caught Reading calendar that will feature photos of library patrons and reading activities collected throughout the year.

Sponsors, both businesses and individuals, are needed to help offset the cost of printing.

Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club holds breakfast fundraiser
One of the Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club groomers marked the spot for snowmobilers to park in front of Knocker’s Pizza Company in St. Germain for the Bo-Boen benefit breakfast held Jan. 19. Knocker’s Pizza Company in St. Germain hosted the annual Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club’s benefit breakfast Jan. 19.

Snowmobile?riders stopped at the restaurant for a breakfast of eggs, hash browns, sausage and toast, all for a donation of $10.

The funds raised will be used to defray the costs of grooming and other trail maintenance. The annual operating budget for club is between $90,000 and $100,000.

Barbian named general manager of Black Bear Lodge property

IDM Group LLC, the hotel development and management firm for Black Bear Lodge in St. Germain, announced that there is a new general manager for the property.

Jake Barbian has taken over general manager duties for this North Woods retreat featuring cabins, cottages and condominium-like suites, located on the shoreline of Little St. Germain Lake.

Barbian’s hotel experience includes front desk responsibilities at the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin Dells and a branded property in Neenah.

Sherren, at age 90, continues to ride with the Boo-BBB’s snowmobile club

Luella Sherren, age 90,  remains active with the St. Germain’s Boo-BBB’s informal snowmobile club that takes weekly rides.

The club, founded in 1969, is the ladies version of Apple Dumpling Gang snowmobile club out of St. Germain.

Sherren has been ride leader for the Boo-BBB’s, which are part of the annual Women on Snow weekend event held Jan. 24 to 26 at Eagle Waters Resort in Eagle River.
