Phelps School District publishes student supply lists for 2014-’15

The School District of Phelps has released its student supply lists for kindergarten through eighth grade for the 2014-’15 school year as follows:

Prekindergarten and kindergarten: one backpack, gym shoes (gym use only, preferably hook-and-loop fastener or slip-on), box of tissues (prekindergarten only), two folders, box of snack-size plastic zippered bags (kindergarten only), box of quart-size plastic zippered bags (all kindergarten and only pre-kindergarten only last names beginning with N-Z), box of gallon-size plastic zippered bags (prekindergarten only, last names beginning with A-M), one spiral notebook for communication (prekindergarten only),

Steak fry
The Phelps Lions Club tickets to its steak fry sold out for the second straight year, as 450 guests participated in the meal at the 18th annual event at Wavering Park. Live entertainment was provided by the Bill Hassey Orchestra and 50/50 drawings were held throughout the dinner. Club Treasurer Brian Blank said the success of the event was due to the support from the Phelps community, surrounding communities and donations from the Mendham family at Sunrise Lodge, Barry Mohr at the Phelps Convenience Center and other individual donations. The event was coordinated by club members Dennis Konieczka and Mike McAdams. Event proceeds fund local scholarships for area students, the Headwaters Food Pantry, various local charities and Lions Club projects.  —Photo By  Sharon Gifford

Picnic in Park serves 475
A total of 438 adults and 37 children were served at the 17th annual Picnic in the Park. The event is sponsored by Northwoods Living Care Foundation and raises money for the Phelps ambulance fund. 	—Photo By Sharon Gifford

The 17th annual Picnic in the Park fundraiser for the Phelps ambulance fund netted $7,500 and served 438 adults and 37 children a chicken and ribs barbecue.

The event was sponsored by the Northwoods Living Care Foundation.

Poker run set Saturday

The North and South Twin Lake Riparian Association will sponsor its fundraiser poker run by boat Saturday, July 19, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Participants will pay $5 each and meet at Fruth’s dock at 4050 Twin Lake Road in Conover at 1 p.m. for a map and instructions.

The winners will be announced at Dublin’s Sports Bar at 5 p.m. where food and beverages may be purchased.

Women’s club plans meeting

The Phelps Women’s Club will meet at Big Sand Lake Club Monday, July 21, at 1 p.m.

Hostesses will be Big Sand Lake Club members. Items on the agenda include the results of the chicken dinner and Scarecrow Fest.

Celebrating Independence

Wounded Warriors Committee to serve as 2014 parade marshals

The Phelps Chamber of Commerce?recently announced that the Wounded Warriors In Action (WWIA) Committee will serve as the town’s Fourth of July parade marshals.

The Spurgeons and Volds have coordinated the WWIA fundraiser event at Holiday Lodge for the last three years with a three-year total profit of $26,600.

Lions Club’s steak fry set at Wavering Park

The Phelps Lions Club will hold its 18th annual Steak in the Park event at Wavering Park in Phelps Wednesday, July 16.

A steak fry will be served at the park from 5 to 8 p.m. including a cooked-to-order filet mignon, potatoes, salad, roll and dessert for a cost of $17 in advance or $19 at the event.

Live entertainment will be provided by the Bill Hassey Orchestra.

Long Lake group sets annual meeting

The 2014 annual meeting of the Long Lake of Phelps Lake District (LLPLD) will be held Saturday, July 5, at 10:30 a.m. in the Phelps School cafeteria.

Landowners are welcome to attend for updates on the Department of Natural Resources grant, aquatic invasive species, fishery report, 2015 budget, 2015 tax levy and volunteer projects.
