Great Escape to host blindfolded snomo race

The Great Escape Bar and Restaurant in Phelps will sponsor its second annual blindfolded snowmobile race Saturday, Jan. 25.

The race will begin at noon with a driver’s meeting slated for 11 a.m.

To register, call (715) 545-2585. Registration costs $20 for each two-person team. Registrations also will be accepted at the door.

Snomo club fundraiser
Sunrise Lodge employee Jackie Samuelson served breakfast during a recent snowmobile club benefit, which drew an all-time record 188 people. The event raised $785 for the Phelps Snowmobile Club, $600 for the Land O’ Lakes Frosty Club, $140 for the U.P. Thunder Riders, and $275 for the Conover Sno-Buddies. “We all appreciate the hard work the clubs do to keep the snowmobilers coming to our area to enjoy the great trails,” said Sunrise Lodge owner Phil Mendham.	    —Photo By Sharon Gifford

Christmas concert

Tree lighting
Bradyn Meistad (above) recently visited with Santa at Phelps’ annual tree lighting at Holiday Lodge. The event was sponsored  by various local sponsors and the Phelps Community Development Committee. Santa arrived on a fire engine, taking his seat inside Holiday Lodge to hear Christmas wishes. Each child in attendance at the event received a goodie bag. Breakfast with Santa
The Phelps High School students (above), from left, Caitlin Crawford, Alexis Lucas and Amanda Volkmann were among the sophomore class which recently held its Breakfast with Santa fundraiser. Seventy children and adults attended the event, which included visits with Santa Claus and a meal. A collection for the food pantry was taken and baked items were available to purchase. School to hold Xmas concert

The Phelps School Music Department, under the direction of Kim Johnson, will present its Christmas Concert Monday, Dec. 16, at 6:30 p.m. in the school’s small gymnasium.

There will be performances by the choir, seventh- through 12th-grade band, sixth-grade band, and two hand-chime choirs.

Grades four-year-old kindergarten through five will present the musical “Twas the Night Before Christmas” by Teresa Jennings. Admission to the program will be free.

Blood drive slated in Phelps Dec. 19 at St. Mary’s Church

The Northwoods Community Blood Center Inc. will hold a blood drive in Phelps, Thursday, Dec. 19, from 2 to 6 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, located at 4494 Town Hall Road.

Donations of all blood types are needed. Donations from people with O Negative, A Negative, B Negative and O Positive blood are especially needed.

Blood donations are projected to decrease substantially in the last two weeks of December, according to Jan Hadsell of the Community Blood Center.

“This blood drive will bolster the blood supply before the holidays, lessening the impact of the donation decline,”

Breakfast fundraiser set to benefit snomo clubs

The Sunrise Lodge will host an all-you-can-eat breakfast Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 14-15, from 7:30 to 11 a.m. both days to benefit local snowmobile clubs.

All of the proceeds will be donated to the snowmobile club of the customer’s choice, including the Phelps Snowmobile Club, Land O’ Lakes Frosty Club, Conover Snow Buddies, or U.P. Thunder Riders of Watersmeet.

All monies raised will go directly to trail maintenance and grooming.
