Wounded Warriors set third annual banquet

Wounded Warriors In Action will hold its third annual fundraiser banquet at Holiday Lodge in Phelps Sunday, Feb. 9, from 1 to 5 p.m.

The event will be coordinated by Debbie and Robin Vold, along with Karen and Scott Spurgeon.

Tickets cost $50 for a couple and $30 for a single and may be purchased at the Phelps or Eagle River branch of First National Bank of Eagle River, The Tackle Box in Land O’ Lakes and Holiday Lodge.

Winter Carnival set Feb. 1

The Phelps School Community Committee will sponsor its Winter Carnival at Phelps School Saturday, Feb. 1.

The event will feature a hot dog and chili meal at no charge and sampling of the chili and soup cook-off and pie and dessert bake-off.

Inflatables and games will be available for the children in the large gym from 4 to 7 p.m. Music by the Popular Girl Band will be offered from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the small gym.

All events are open to the public

Library friends set meeting

The Friends of Land O’ Lakes Library will hold its first meeting of the new year Thursday, Jan. 16, at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Room.

The day for the monthly movie at the library has been changed to Thursday, Jan. 16, as well. The film “Despicable Me 2” will be shown at 1 p.m.

Great Escape to host blindfolded snomo race

The Great Escape Bar and Restaurant in Phelps will sponsor its second annual blindfolded snowmobile race Saturday, Jan. 25.

The race will begin at noon with a driver’s meeting slated for 11 a.m.

To register, call (715) 545-2585. Registration costs $20 for each two-person team. Registrations also will be accepted at the door.

Snomo club fundraiser
Sunrise Lodge employee Jackie Samuelson served breakfast during a recent snowmobile club benefit, which drew an all-time record 188 people. The event raised $785 for the Phelps Snowmobile Club, $600 for the Land O’ Lakes Frosty Club, $140 for the U.P. Thunder Riders, and $275 for the Conover Sno-Buddies. “We all appreciate the hard work the clubs do to keep the snowmobilers coming to our area to enjoy the great trails,” said Sunrise Lodge owner Phil Mendham.	    —Photo By Sharon Gifford

Christmas concert

Tree lighting
Bradyn Meistad (above) recently visited with Santa at Phelps’ annual tree lighting at Holiday Lodge. The event was sponsored  by various local sponsors and the Phelps Community Development Committee. Santa arrived on a fire engine, taking his seat inside Holiday Lodge to hear Christmas wishes. Each child in attendance at the event received a goodie bag.
