Care foundation plans picnic, buys injury simulation gear

The Northwoods Living Care Foundation (NLCF) recently purchased a casualty simulation moulage kit for the Phelps Emergency Medical Service (EMS) at a cost of $795, which was raised through donations generated from a community Christmas letter sent by the foundation last December.

NATH event raises $1,216

The Northwoods Alliance for Temporary Housing Inc. (NATH) and the Chain Skimmers Water Ski Team held a benefit water-ski show and concert June 23 on Lake Pleasant in Conover.

Approximately 50 people attended the event, and  raised $1,216 which will help both Frederick Place and Chain Skimmers.

Since opening Jan. 31, 2011, Frederick Place has provided shelter for 243 individuals, including 34 children. A total of 9,179 nights

Wounded Warriors in Action sponsors fishing trip for vets
The Wounded Warriors in Action Foundation recently sponsored an all-expenses-paid, two-day and three-night fishing event for five veterans with local Phelps fishing guides. Four purple heart recipients and one nonmedical attendant from four different states recently were awarded an all-expenses-paid, two-day and three-night fishing event with Phelps fishing guides.

The trip was researched and planned by Purple Heart recipient Scott Spurgeon, an associate of Wounded Warriors in Action (WWIA).

The outing was funded through a WWIA fundraiser

Lions Club plans Steak in the Park PDF Print E-mail

The Phelps Lions Club will hold its 17th annual Steak in the Park event Wednesday, July 17, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Wavering Park.

Tickets cost $17 in ad­vance and $19 at the door. Hot dogs will be available for children younger than 12 for $2.

Entertainment will be provided by Bill Hassey and his orchestra with Skip Wagner.

Hassey orchestra to perform at 17th Lions Club Steak Fry

Bill Hassey and his orchestra featuring Skip Wagner will perform at the 17th annual Phelps Lions Club Steak Fry Wednesday, July 17, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Wavering Park rain or shine.

Hassey has had a band for 55 years mainly in the Milwaukee area. He restarted the band four years ago playing at the Eagle Waters Resort.

The group plays a variety of music, including old standard, country, 60s and rock and roll.

Long Lake District sets meeting

The annual meeting of the Long Lake of Phelps Lake District will take place Saturday, July 6, at 10 a.m. at the Phelps School cafeteria.

Chicken dinner
A record-high 290 people were served at the Phelps Women’s Club’s annual chicken dinner last week at Holiday Lodge. Marianne and George Schofield of Phelps won three raffle baskets (above). The dinner raised $920 for the club. Donna Brand and June Franzen coordinated the dinner, while Carol Janick and Deb Ryan organized the raffle.
