Snook, Spurgeon contend for Phelps chairman seat

Voters in Phelps will hold elections for the chairman seat and two supervisor positions Tuesday, April 2.

Polls will be open at the Phelps Fire Hall from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Incumbent Chairman Colin Snook will be challenged by Cynthia Spurgeon.

Incumbent supervisors Steve Waier and Donna Brand

‘Alice’ to crown Maple Tour princess

Rochelle Ripp, the 65th Alice in Dairyland, will visit Phelps Friday, April 5, to give a program at the school and to crown the Phelps Maple Syrup Princess at Holiday Lodge as part of the Phelps Maple Tour.

She grew up near Lodi on her family’s dairy and cash crop farm. Ripp was involved in 4H and graduated from UW-Platteville in 2009 with an agribusiness degree in communications.

Alice in Dairyland is a one-year, full-time public relations professional employed by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection.

Class fundraiser
Phelps second-grade student Madison Nyman served a customer at the classes recent breakfast fundraiser at Sunrise Lodge, which served 140 guests. Funds raised will support the class trip to the Milwaukee Public Museum in May. Blood drive set at St. Mary’s

A community blood drive will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Thursday, March 28, from 2 to 6 p.m.

Maple tour scheduled April 5-6

Phelps will hold its second annual Maple Syrup Tour Friday and Saturday, April 5-6.

Festivities begin Friday evening at Holiday Lodge at 5:30 p.m. with a celebration dinner, musical entertainment from Bill Wilkinson and the crowning of the first Phelps Maple Syrup Prin­cess.

Supporting the Lady Knights
The Phelps Lady Knights girls basketball team advanced to the WIAA Division 5 Sectional semifinal last Thursday night, facing Wausau Newman Catholic at the Antigo High School field house. Phelps fans showed up in big numbers to support the Lady Knights, though the team lost the game 48-30. Gherardini wins contest for festival logo design

Christina Gherardini, 23, of Hoffman Estates, Ill., recently was named the winner of the logo contest for the Phelps Music Phestival & Phly-in set in July.

Gherardini is a freelance graphic designer and an honors graduate from the Illinois Institute of Art.

Easter egg hunt slated March 30

Phelps will hold its annual Easter egg hunt for children up to age 12 or sixth-grade Saturday, March 30, beginning at 11 a.m. at Phelps School.

The event will feature a visit from the Easter Bunny prior to the hunt.

A meal consisting of a hot dog and chips will be offered at no cost. All participants will receive a prize.

Wirtz presented award at Tastefully Simple event

Tastefully Simple consultant Sarah Wirtz of Phelps recently earned the Top 10 Sponsors award at the food company’s tour event in Minneapolis, Minn.

As part of the honor, Wirtz was recognized for the success at her independent business last year.

She also participated in training and was present for the unveiling of Tastefully Simple’s new spring-summer product line.

Rennes donation
Lillian Kerr Healthcare Center by Rennes recently donated bags of towels, sheets, blankets and afghans to the Humane Society of Vilas County. The donation materials were collected during Lillian Kerr’s recent move to Rhinelander.
