Festivities set for Fourth

Festivities for the Fourth of July are planned in Phelps Friday, July 4, from 3 to 11 p.m.

The Lions Club Parade will begin at 3 p.m. through downtown Phelps, followed by the Chain Skimmers ski show on North Twin Lake and live music by Popular Girl beginning at 4 p.m.

There will be children’s games and activities, a pie-eating contest and chicken drop contest, along with 50/50 raffles.

Elizabeth Black, 12, of Appleton and Phelps won the logo contest sponsored by Barry and Wendy Mohr of Sweet Treats & More in Phelps with her logo “It’s Doggone Good.” Black designed the logo for the I.C. Sammy treat, winning the first-place prize of an ice cream sandwich every day for the season. Michael Franzen, 13, of Phelps took second and Brandon Aderhold, 10, of Edgerton won third prize. Golf tourney planned at Big Sand Lake Club

Big Sand Lake Club will sponsor the fifth annual charity golf tournament Sunday, June 29, beginning at 11 a.m.

The name of the event has been changed from the Vance K. “Kep” Vorhees charity golf tournament to Founding Fathers.

Lions Club schedules 18th Steak in the Park

The Phelps Lions Club will hold its 18th annual Steak in the Park event at Wavering Park in Phelps Wednesday, July 16.

A steak fry will be served at the park from 5 to 8 p.m. including a cooked-to-order filet mignon, potatoes, salad, roll and dessert for a cost of $17 in advance or $19 at the event.

Live entertainment will be provided by the Bill Hassey Orchestra.

Library to hold fundraiser event

The Phelps Public Library will hold a fundraiser event at the Wavering Park pavilion Saturday, June 28, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Local musicians will perform country, bluegrass and rock music.

Concessions will be available, and raffle tickets will be on hand for various donated items and gift certificates for a cost of $1 per ticket or six for $5.

All event proceeds will benefit the Phelps Public Library.
