Easter Egg Hunt slated April 18

The Phelps Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, at 11 a.m. at Phelps School for children through sixth grade or up to 12 years old.

Rob Andersen III of Hillside Resort and Colin Crawford of Colin Crawford’s Guide Service are coordinating the event.

The Easter Bunny will visit with children prior to the hunt. A hot dog and chip meal will be offered at no cost. All children will receive a prize.

Children are asked to take an Easter basket and a non-perishable item for the food pantry.

Kimmerling, DuQuaine to serve on town board

Voters in Phelps Tuesday night elected Dorothy Kimmerling and Mike DuQuaine to seats on the Phelps Town Board.

DuQuaine had the most votes with 252, followed by the incumbent Kimmerling with 245.

Lorin Johnson and Cindy Regozzi lost the election with 158 votes and 53 votes, respectively.

Meanwhile, Chairman Colin Snook, Supervisor Steve Waier and Supervisor Wally Beversdorf were not up for elections this term.

Broadband issue nixed by voters

Phelps residents voted Tuesday night against a referendum asking to purchase or lease property for broadband expansion in the town.

The referendum was voted down 230 to 164.

The question posed on the ballot read: “Would you support using taxpayers’ dollars to purchase or lease property and equipment for the expansion of broadband throughout the town of Phelps?”

Women’s club plans meeting

The Phelps Women’s Club will meet Monday, April 14, at 1 p.m. at the Phelps Fire Hall.

Event hostesses will be Lola Sobiek, Jan Petrick and Carol Hockers. The women will share a visual presentation on the ice caves in Bayfield.

Solo and Ensemble
Due to inclement weather, Phelps High School students were unable to travel to Solo and Ensemble competition in White Lake in early March. A competition judge instead visited the school to adjudicate the students. Jackie Samuelson will go to State for trumpet and placed in Class A for vocals; Michael Franzen earned Class B for vocals and hand-chime choir; and Taylor Huza earned Class B for saxophone. Class C students included Austin Buell, saxophone; Alexis Sieg, clarinet; Teresa Kopanski, alto clarinet; Alexandria Myzska, trombone; Colyn Drenth, trombone; Brady Bierman, tuba; Richard Wilson, snare drum; and Jacob Johnson, French horn.  —Photo By Sharon Gifford
