Textbook-sculpture class slated in Land O’ Lakes

Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans Inc. (LOLA) announced its upcoming classes.

LOLA will offer a class on making sculptures out of recycled textbooks Thursday, May 8, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the LOLA Center for the Arts.

The class will be lead by Wendy Powalisz, program director for LOLA, and is designed for home-schooled youth, ages 7 to 17.

Egg hunt
The Land O' Lakes Public Library held its annual Easter Egg Hunt and Party. More than 100 people attended the event which  included games, crafts, an outdoor Easter egg hunt and a visit from the Easter Bunny. Soccer registration slated May 6 at elementary school

Headwaters Youth Soccer Association registration will be held Tuesday, May 6, from 3:15 to 6 p.m. at Land O’ Lakes Elementary School.

The recreational soccer league will be open to all children from the Conover and Land O’ Lakes area entering kindergarten through eighth grade. Home-schooled children also are welcome.

The soccer season will run from the first week of August through the first week of October.

Book club
Northern Footnotes Book Club members Lois Bates (right) and Chris Ebert (left) re-enacted the roles of British post-World War I investigator Maisie Dobbs and her wealthy sponsor, Lady Compton, from the book “Maisie Dobbs” by Jacqueline Winespear at a gathering of the club at the Land O’ Lakes Public Library April 8. Bates led a discussion on the expanding role of women at the beginning of the 20th century, and the historical and personal devastation wrought by World War I. The meeting also included discussion and high tea featuring homemade scones and a variety of teas served in china cups brought for the occasion by group member Cora Claypool. The next meeting of the book group will be Tuesday, May 13, at 11 a.m. at the Forest Lake Country Store in Land O’ Lakes.
