Volunteer clean-up
he Land O’ Lakes Planning and Beautification Committee partnered with volunteers and Conserve School students to rejuvenate several town landscape areas  May 15.  Work was done at the Land O’ Lakes chamber building, Land O’ Lakes Public Library, and the Land O’ Lakes Town Hall and fire barn.  Committee members then fed the students and volunteers with sloppy joes and all the trimmings. Summer Launch to start this weekend

Land O’ Lakes Chamber of Commerce recently announced its Land O’ Lakes Summer Launch during the Memorial Day weekend Saturday and Sunday, May 25 and 26.

The launch plans for Saturday include a bake sale at St. Albert’s Church and a classic boat show downtown next to Brew’s Pub which is part of the Land O’ Lakes Area Artisan Inc.’s 100 days of Art in Land O’ Lakes.

All of the downtown businesses will be open to welcome summer and its visitors. Later in the afternoon,  there will be a street dance on Airport Road alongside Brew’s Pub and in the evening there will be a free old-time outdoor movie in the Snowflake building behind the town hall. Club 45 donates

Fiorucci to be LOLA intern

Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans Inc. (LOLA) recently welcomed Nina Fiorucci as the 2013 summer intern.

Fiorucci is an art education major with an emphasis in photography at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Mich. Originally from Watersmeet, Mich., she attended a high school for the arts with a darkroom and has been interested in  alternative photographic processes ever since.

Flea market begins May 30; event to run every Thursday

 

Land O’ Lakes Town Hall grounds will host a flea market and rummage sale  Thursdays this summer.

There will be spaces available with Highway B frontage, as well as rain- and sun-sheltered spaces under the snowflake enclosure.

Club donation
The Conover Lions Club recently donated a check for $730 for a Trekker handheld talking GPS for the blind to Jeff Hedberg (middle), seen here with Lion Richard Hedberg (left) and Lions President Roger Flaherty (right). Jeff Hedberg is the son of Richard Hedberg of Conover, longtime member of the Conover Lions Club. Clubs to host fishing event

The Conover Lions Club and Muskies Inc. announced it will host Take A Kid Fishing Day, Fathers Day, Sunday, June 16, at Lake Itsey Bitsey at the Conover Town Park, located on Highway K.

Every child catches a fish and if Walter, the biggest fish, is caught, it will be mounted and donated by Lax Reproductions.  Admission is free.

Flea market set for summer

Land O' Lakes town hall grounds will host a flea market and rummage sale  Thursdays this summer.

There will be spaces available with Highway B frontage, as well as rain- and sun-sheltered spaces under the snowflake enclosure.

“Gather your crafts or clean out your garage, basement and attic and rent a 10-foot by 10-foot space for $5.00.  Rain or shine every Thursday, beginning May 30 thru Aug. 29, except 4th of July, from 8:30 a.m.

Ladies luncheon
Conover Chamber of Commerce held its first Ladies Luncheon recently at Lanny’s Fireside. There were 70 tickets sold for the luncheon which included displays by six vendors with items available for purchase.  A portion of the proceeds from this event will go toward the John Mark Price Scholarship Fund. LOLA announces rug hooking classes

Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans (LOLA) Center for the Arts announced it will host Camp Land O’ Rugs, a rug-hooking workshop taught by accredited McGown rug hooking teacher Pat Schmelzle of Wautoma June 3 through June 5.

There will be open workshop with students and a mini-class in dyeing. During the open workshop, participants are requested to bring their current work, new designs or an old project that needs help. The topics discussed will included techniques, color planning and design.

The mini-class in dyeing will focus on food color dyeing, an easy, inexpensive and non-toxic way to dye wool and achieve the perfect color desired.

Participants will learn to dye white wool, marbleize
