Poker run
The North and South Twin Lake Riparian Association recently held their annual poker run on North and South Twin lakes. Eighty-seven people and 22 boats participated in the event. Winners were announced at Dublin Sports Bar and Grill in Conover. First place went to Judye Heimerl, Sara Mijal took second place and  third place belonged to Greg Darton. Money raised during the poker run will be used to fight Eurasian milfoil. Oktoberfest set Aug. 9

The Conover Chamber of Commerce will sponsor Oktoberfest Saturday, Aug. 9, in the Conover Town Park Pavilion on Highway K East. Doors open and keg-tapping begins at 5 p.m.

The Jim Pekol Orchestra will play German music. The cost is $5 per person. There will also be paddle-wheel 50-50 raffles along with traditional German food for purchase.

Car show, flea market scheduled July 27

The 13th annual Conover Fire and Rescue Benefit Car Show and Flea Market is planned Sunday, July 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Conover Town Park.

The event will include raffles, door prizes and some of the areas finest cars, trucks and motorcycles.

Freund to exhibit art at T.J. Grizzlies

The Summer Days of Art series, a Land O’ Lakes Chamber of Commerce program in partnership with Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans Inc. (LOLA), announced that international artist Joey Freund will continue exhibiting her art at T.J. Grizzlies in Land O’ Lakes on the restaurant walls for the remainder of the summer.

Science show
Magic-Al science magician, also known as Al Stawicki, an award-winning Wisconsin Science Teacher of the Year, visited the Land O’ Lakes Public Library as part of the library’s Fizz Boom Read! science summer-reading theme. The event was sponsored by Conserve School of Land O’ Lakes and the library. Stawicki involved the audience in problem-solving situations, educational lessons and science magic. Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans Inc. (LOLA) held its annual fundraiser, the Art of Cheese, at Forest Lake Country Store June 18.

More than 75 supporters attended the event, which included tasting dishes with featured cheese created by personal chef and caterer Lynn Richie.

Blood drive set July 22

A community blood drive, hosted by the Conover Lions Club, has been planned in Conover Tuesday, July 22, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Community Center on Highway K.

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old, or 16 with parental permission, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health and have a photo ID. Donors are encouraged to eat a regular meal and drink plenty of fluids prior to donating.

Advance donation appointments are recommended, and may be made by calling Rita or Al at (715) 479-4959 or the Community Blood Center toll-free at 1-(800) 280-4102, or by visiting save3lives.org.
