Chili Cook-Off planned Feb. 1

The Conover Sno-Buddies Snowmobile Club will hold its annual Chili Cook-Off at Club 45 in Conover Saturday, Feb. 1, from 3 to 6 p.m.

Anyone who would like to enter their chili into the contest should have it at Club 45 no later than 3 p.m. that day.

Those attending the event will be asked for a $5 donation to taste all of the chili and vote for their favorite.

The Sno-Buddies will hold the next monthly meeting Tuesday, Feb. 11,

Chamber contributes to ‘Big Bundle Up’ campaign

The Land O’?Lakes Chamber of Commerce acted as one of the drop-off and pick-up sites for lightly used winter clothing for the Wisconsin Department of Tourism’s “Big Bundle Up” campaign.

All items donated at the Land O’ Lakes Chamber were passed along to Land O’ Lakes area residents.

More than 11,000 winter clothing items, including hats, scarves, snow pants, coats and mittens, were donated by the program to more than 75 different charities throughout Wisconsin.

Chamber elects officers, directors

Land O’ Lakes Chamber of Commerce directors and officers were elected at a chamber dinner meeting held Jan. 16, at Red Man Supper Club in Land O’ Lakes.

Officers elected for 2014 include President Andrea Haviar, Vice President Sandy Garbarek, Secretary Jane Pachmayer and Treasurer Stefan Anderson.

All current directors were re-elected to the board which includes Dawn Whitney, Linda Youngquist and Kristin Sarama.

Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans to offer side-dish cooking class

Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans Inc. (LOLA) in Land O’ Lakes announced its upcoming classes.

Personal chef Lynn Richie will lead the cooking class “Starring Side Dishes” Thursday, Feb. 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ely Memorial United Church of Christ’s kitchen in Land O’?Lakes.

“Lynne will make your sides become the star of the show. Her love affair with all things food and food-like will bring fresh ideas to the rest of your meal,” said Wendy Powalisz, LOLA program director.

Blood drive set Jan. 28

A community blood drive will be held Tuesday, Jan. 28, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Community Center on Highway K in Conover. The drive is hosted by the Conover Lions Club.

“Over 4 million Americans receive transfusions each year, and this blood comes from volunteer blood donors,” said Jan Hadsell of the Community Blood Center.

“January is National Blood Donor Month, and I encourage you to celebrate by donating blood on Tuesday. Blood donors are everyday heroes, and we are grateful for their compassion and dedication,” added Hadsell.

Northwoods Blizzard Blast scheduled Sunday, Feb. 16

Work is underway to prepare the Conover Community Park for the Northwoods Blizzard Blast set Sunday, Feb. 16, beginning at 10 a.m.

The all day event will include recliner races, snow sculptures, pond curling demonstrations, ice bowling and many more activities for the entire family. The event will conclude at dusk with fireworks.

Scholarship fundraiser slated Saturday, Jan. 18

The Jim Scott Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mapleview Resort in Conover.

The event will feature drinks, food and big ticket raffle items including a 32-inch flat-screen TV, a Keurig Platinum Coffee Maker, a $200 gas card and more.

Proceeds will benefit continued education for a graduating high school senior.

Beast Feast set Jan. 25

All men are welcome to attend the Beast Feast at Conover Evangelical Free Church Saturday, Jan. 25, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. for a night of food and fellowship.

“Bring one of your best meat dishes for a chance to win a Beast Feast award, and to share with the rest of the men,” said a church representative.

The event will also feature tables set up to play euchre and cribbage.

Winter Frolic planned Feb. 9

The Conover Lions Club will hold its 55th annual Winter Frolic Sunday, Feb. 9, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Conover Town Park, located at 4665 Highway K East.

The event will include downhill sledding,  and toboggan,  saucer and snowboard races with prizes in each age category. Participants need to take their own sledding equipment.
