Historical society schedules s’mores and storytelling event

The Land O’ Lakes Historical Society members  will present “S’mores and More, Storytelling by Local Guides,” a community family event, at the Land O’ Lakes NorthernWaters Museum garden, Sunday, July 28, from 6 to 8 p.m.

In case of rain, the alternate site will be the Land O’ Lakes park pavilion, located directly behind the museum area.

All s’mores ingredients will be provided, as well as sticks for roasting.

Trout Creek to host picnic, class reunions

Trout Creek/Interior Township, Mich. will host a community picnic and reunion of the Trout Creek High School classes of 1962, ’63 and ’64 Saturday, Aug. 10.

In the event that construction work at the Abbott Fox Community Park is not completed, the potluck gathering will be held at the Trout Creek American Legion Hall.

The day’s events will begin with a flag raising at noon by members of American Legion Post No. 494.

Disc jockey music will provide entertainment. Crafters are invited

Cisco riparians set picnic

The 51st annual Cisco Chain Riparian Owners Association (CCROA) Picnic is scheduled Sunday, July 21, at a new venue, Vacationland Resort located on Hebert Road in Watersmeet, Mich.

The resort, which has lake frontage on Thousand Island Lake, offers a central location on the Cisco Chain.

According to the CCROA, the site features ample parking, a sand beach, a wading area for children and grassy areas for fun and games.

Welcoming activities, which begin at 11:30 a.m.

Conover parade

Taste of Conover
The Conover Chamber of Commerce recently held the seventh annual Taste of Conover in the Conover Town Park. A crowd of 650 people sampled a variety of food served by area businesses. “It was another great event. Art Impressions scheduled July 27

The Land O’ Lakes Chamber of Commerce announced that Art Impressions 2013 will be held under the pine trees on the Land O’ Lakes Town Hall grounds Saturday, July 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine.

There will be no admission charge, and free parking will be available.

More than 80 fine arts exhibitors and original crafters from northern Midwest states will feature a variety of work on display and for sale.

Categories include original painting, jewelry, pottery, basketry, stained glass, textiles, woodworking, carving and others.

LOLA slates folk dance

Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans (LOLA) recently announced that there will be a Community Folk Dance Saturday, Aug. 10, from 8-10 p.m. at the Land O’ Lakes Park Pavilion.

The event called “Dancing for Swaziland” is part of the 100 Days of Art series.

The dance is free and open to the public.

There will be a free-will collection taken to benefit Cabrini Ministries which operates an HIV clinic and orphanage in the Lubombo region of Swaziland.
