Annual blessing
A free Blessing of the Animals service will be offered at Pioneer Lake Lutheran Church, located at 3675 Church Road in Conover,  Sunday, Aug. 18, at 3 p.m. The entire North Woods community is welcome to take pets of all kinds to receive a blessing at this outdoor service. Those interested do not need to have a pet to attend. If desired, attendees may sign up for a certificate of blessing, including a picture of the pet, signed by the Rev. John. Animal and people food will be served. A free-will offering will be taken for the Humane Society of Vilas County. As a safety measure, all pets should be leashed or caged. Church sets welcome service PDF Print E-mail

Hope Lutheran Church welcomes the public to attend a Sunday Friendship service, Aug. 11, at morning worship service beginning at 9:30 a.m.

“This is the time to greet new members and welcome friends, neighbors and family,” said a church spokesperson.

A meal will be served following the service.

Hope Lutheran Church is located on Highway 45 N., just across the Wisconsin-Michigan border.

Melody with HeArt scheduled Sept. 26
Melody with HeArt, a fundraising event presented by Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans Inc. (LOLA), the Northwoods Singers and Headwaters State Bank will be held Thursday, Sept. 26, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at Gateway Lodge in Land O’ Lakes. The event will feature food, music and local artists. Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans Inc. (LOLA), the Northwoods Singers and Headwaters State Bank are collaborating to present a gala fall fundraising event, Melody with HeArt, Thursday, Sept. 26, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the Gateway Lodge in Land O’ Lakes.

The event celebrates art in the North Woods and will feature gourmet food, music and local art.

The evening will begin with cocktails in Gateway Lodge Lounge, followed by a dinner catered by Lanny’s Fireside.

Museum to open workroom

The Land O’ Lakes Historical Society Acquisitions Task Force recently announced it will open the Land O’ Lakes Historical Society’s Northern Waters Museum workroom to the public Thursday, Aug. 22, from noon to 4 p.m.

Attendees will learn how the museum stores donated historical items, how exhibit items are handled and how modern computer techniques are used to organize collections.

Time permitting, historical society volunteers will scan and copy historical documents or photographs for workroom visitors.

Science show
The Land O’ Lakes Public Library hosted the Magic is Fun! show sponsored by Conserve School July 24. Science magician Al Stawicki, who is an award-winning “Wisconsin Science Teacher of the Year” presented the show. More than 90 children and adults were in attendance to be entertained and learn about science through magic. — Monday, Aug. 5, “Hotel Transylvania,” an animated family comedy starring Adam Sandler and Selena Gomez. 91 min.

— Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 10 a.m., Art on the Lawn. This event is part of Land O’ Lakes Area Artisan’s 100 Days of Art series. Participants will create on the library’s front lawn.

LOLA to offer digital camera class

Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans Inc. (LOLA) recently announced that it has added some additional classes for August.

“Digital Cameras 101” is set for Friday, Aug. 9, from 1 to 2 p.m. LOLA’s summer intern Nina Fiorucci will give a general overview of digital camera operation, and instruc­tion on taking great photos.

The cost for adults and children age 12 and older will be $10.

Treasures in the Yard sale set Aug. 3 in Land O’ Lakes

Simple Life Antiques and Uniques recently announced it will hold its annual Treasures in the Yard sale Saturday, Aug. 3, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with vendors setup in the store yard in downtown Land O’ Lakes.

“The popular ‘purse lady’ will be back to sell her designer purses, shoes, clothing and accessories,” said a yard sale organizer.

Other vendors will offer a variety of collectibles including vintage linens and kitchenware, baskets, blankets, rugs, jewelry, home decor and trash-to-treasure furniture, and more.

Auto show
 Conover Volunteer Fire & Rescue and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) recently hosted the 12th annual Auto Show at the Conover Town Park. Trophys were awarded.
