Animal blessing
 Pioneer Lake Lutheran Church held its annual pet blessing service Sunday, Aug. 18, on the shore of Pioneer Lake. According to the Indermuehle children’s count, there were 36 people, 23 dogs, three kittens, one bunny, one duck, one goose, two hermit crabs, one snail and a large snake present, and the Rev. Chain Saw Charlie to give demonstration

Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans (LOLA) ?recently announced its upcoming 100 Days of Art events.

Chain Saw Charlie, local chain saw carver Chuck Horn, will be on the LOLA deck to give a sawing demonstration Sept. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“A Taste of the Harvest,”  featuring a cooking demonstration from cheese artisan Pete Martin, will kick off Colorama weekend Monday, Sept. 19, at 10 a.m. at the Land O’ Lakes Farmers Market.

Golf fundraiser
The Gateway Lodge Big Bang Golf Outing, held July 16, raised more than $10,000 for the Land O’ Lakes fireworks display. More than 60 golfers participated. The event included a fireworks shotgun start, a banquet and raffles. Church to host fiber art show

Ely Memorial Church recently announced it will  sponsor the fiber arts show, Threads Through Time II, in conjuction with Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans’ (LOLA) Art Center’s 100 Days of Art Saturday, Sept. 21.

“Come to the church to enjoy the many demonstrations, a program on old quilts and displays of many fiber arts creations,” said a church representative.

Fiber arts to be featured include both old and new,  and traditional and contemporary.

Photography classes offered thru LOLA

Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans (LOLA) recently announced that it will be featuring three photographic events in the coming weeks as part of the 100 Days of Art series.

— “Feast Your Eyes” Friday, Aug. 23, at 10 a.m. at the Community Garden will feature Holly Farrell’s photographs from the garden, and photo taking tips. For more information, call (906) 544-2425.

Bicycle event
About 300 people participated in last weekend’s Ride with Leinie in Land O’ Lakes. Friday’s activities included two rides for fat tire bikes, followed by a welcome corn roast at Brew’s Pub in downtown Land O’ Lakes. Two rides were offered Saturday beginning at Forest Lake Country Store, one of which was led by Dick and Jean Leinenkugel. A raffle featured items donated by Forest Lake Country Store, Miller Beer of the Northwoods and Wilderness Lakes Trail Inc. It culminated with one lucky participant going home with a Leinen­kugel’s Old Town canoe. Proceeds from the benefit will go toward the continuing development of the Wilderness Lakes Trail biking and pedestrian trail system. When completed, the trail will be a 40-mile loop connecting Waters­meet, Mich., and Land O’ Lakes and encircling the Sylvania Wilderness Area. Water exercise class planned PDF Print E-mail

Nicolet College will hold a  water exercise class at the Gateway Lodge in Land O’ Lakes Mondays and Wednesdays beginning in September, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The class will run through Oct. 16.

Laurie Kramer will instruct the class. The cost will be $56.20 and $42.52 for those older than 62.

The class will include the use of a noodle flotation device to add extra resistance in arm and leg movements, and will be used for stretching exercises and floating water activities.
