Flea market set for summer

Land O' Lakes town hall grounds will host a flea market and rummage sale  Thursdays this summer.

There will be spaces available with Highway B frontage, as well as rain- and sun-sheltered spaces under the snowflake enclosure.

“Gather your crafts or clean out your garage, basement and attic and rent a 10-foot by 10-foot space for $5.00.  Rain or shine every Thursday, beginning May 30 thru Aug. 29, except 4th of July, from 8:30 a.m.

Ladies luncheon
Conover Chamber of Commerce held its first Ladies Luncheon recently at Lanny’s Fireside. There were 70 tickets sold for the luncheon which included displays by six vendors with items available for purchase.  A portion of the proceeds from this event will go toward the John Mark Price Scholarship Fund. LOLA announces rug hooking classes

Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans (LOLA) Center for the Arts announced it will host Camp Land O’ Rugs, a rug-hooking workshop taught by accredited McGown rug hooking teacher Pat Schmelzle of Wautoma June 3 through June 5.

There will be open workshop with students and a mini-class in dyeing. During the open workshop, participants are requested to bring their current work, new designs or an old project that needs help. The topics discussed will included techniques, color planning and design.

The mini-class in dyeing will focus on food color dyeing, an easy, inexpensive and non-toxic way to dye wool and achieve the perfect color desired.

Violin maker to visit LOLA

Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans (LOLA) Center for the Arts recently announced an event featuring violin maker Tess Stephens Wednesday, May 29, from 2 to 3 p.m.

Stephens will show her handmade instruments and discuss her interest in making stringed instruments, as well as demonstrate the instruments, pointing out the qualities of each.

Stephens grew up in Pleasant Hill, Mo., and started playing the fiddle when she was 8 years old.

School to host Spring Fling PDF Print E-mail

Land O’ Lakes Elementary School will host the 2013 Spring Fling “Give My Regards to Broadway” Friday, May 17, at 1:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium in Land O’ Lakes.

The event will feature students in kindergarten through fifth grade performing American musical theater songs from popular Broadway  shows including “The Music Man,” “Oliver,” “The Sound of Music” and “The Wizard of Oz.”

The songs will also feature student soloists, recorders and bells and more.

The Land O’ Lakes Fish & Game Club, which holds its meetings the second Tuesday of the month from May through October, will hold its first meeting at Ely Memorial Church May 14 at 7 p.m. Refreshments and socializing will start at 6:30 p.m. The programs slated through September are as follows:

Chamber plans outdoor sale

Land O’ Lakes Chamber of Commerce will host a This and That Sale Saturday, May 25, and Sunday, May 26. The sale will start at 10 a.m. each day and last until 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.

Sunrise Lodge to host opening day breakfast

Sunrise Lodge, located on the west shore of Lac Vieux Desert, will host the Lac Vieux Desert Lake Association’s opening day breakfast, this Saturday, May 4, from 7:30 to 11 a.m.

Diners may choose a variety of items from the menu which includes juices, fruit, pancakes, eggs, waffles, ham, bacon, sausage and numerous other specialty items.

Tickets for the all-you-can-eat breakfast cost $10 for adults and $4 for children ages 10 and younger.

Youth soccer association schedules fall registration

The Conover-Land O’ Lakes Headwaters Youth Soccer Association will hold registration Tuesday, May 7, from 3:15 to 6 p.m. at Land O’ Lakes Elementary School.

Registration is for students interested in participating in the fall league.

The recreational soccer league is open to children entering kindergarten through eighth grade. Home-schooled children are welcome to participate.
